Nice  work.  You  should  coat  it  with  epoxy  resins  or  araldite  to  give  it  strength.  Else  the  cement  will  start  disintegrating  pretty  soon.  Also  will  have  to  keep  the  tank  filled  with  water  (without  fish)  and  keep  doing  frequent  water  changes  to  leech  out  the  cement.  Keep  doing  it,  till  the  PH  reduces  to  a  normal  value.  All  the  best!

 Hi,

You  should  be  able  to  get  non  toxic  silicone  spray  at  Lohar  Chawl  or  masjid  bunder.  After  you  give  the  cement  coat,  you  could  actually  use  good  grade  colours  to  give  the  choice  of  your  colour  and  then  spray  it  with  clear  silicone  spray.  This  will  stop  the  cement  from  leaching  and  give  the  styrofoam  a  good  hard  finish.

 Hi,

Sorry  i  meant  Food  Grade  colours  and  not  "Good"  grade  colours.  These  should  be  available  at  the  local  grocery  store.

 This  should  work.

Not  sure  about  lacquer.  There  are  many  types,  some  being  toxic.

Ginish,  I  like  your  approach  &  achievement;  and  Nirav's  suggestions  are  very  good.  The  only  negative  I  am  forced  to  comment  is  the  volume  taken  up  by  your  construction  is  too  high  for  this  tank.  I  know  your  second  try  will  be  far  better  -  the  suggestion  from  my  side  is  to  finish  this  project,  water  test  it  throughly  and  redo  it  with  a  more  appropriate  size.

 Hi,

I  had  built  a  Plywood  tank  2  years  back  using  a  three  part  epoxy  as  well  for  my  nephew  kids.  I  think  it  was  the  same  ones  that  madan  used  and  as  suggested  by  a  hardware  store  here,  was  food  grade.

 Here  is  a  pic  of  the  tank,  its  a  5  X  1.5  X  2
