I  have  around  18  adult  discus  ranging  from  4-6"  housed  in  a  6X2X2'  tank.
The  filteration  is  taken  care  by  Unimax  Pro  600.
Water  change  regieme  is  around  30%  to  40%  every  alternative  day.
Feeding:  Hikari  discus  Bio  Gold,  tetra  bits,  occassionally  ground  garlic,  shelled  boiled  peas  spinach  and  pellets  ground  and  frozen.

All  the  discus  are  eating  fine  and  in  good  health.  The  Poo  is  blackish  red.  No  long  strings

Yesterday  I  noticed  one  of  my  6"  PB  checkerboard  discus  having  a  hole  in  the  head  Just  in  front  of  its  eyes  with  white  discuarge  sourrounding  it.  Though  it  is  very  active  and  eating  fine,  still  I  am  worried.  Will  be  posting  pictures  soon.

Can  the  Gurus  kindly  help  me  out  as  to  do  I  need  to  quarentine  it?  If  any  medications  how  to  go  around.  I  have  read  elsewhere  in  the  net  that  Hole  in  the  head  is  due  to  bad  water  conditions.  I  can  assure  you  that  my  water  condition  are  good  with  a  Ph  of  7  and  no  ammonia  or  nitrite.  I  did  a  water  check  up  yester  day  and  the  readings  were  encouraging.  If  that  is  the  case  what  went  wrong?

 Hi  Venky,

HITH  is  caused  due  to  Hexamital  infection  (flagellates).
Quarantine  infected  fish  &  give  it  strong  Metro-booster  course  (10mg  per  liter)  for  3  days  under  higher  temperature  (32-33  degrees).
Would  suggest  not  to  feed  the  fish  during  treatment.

Flagellates  always  exist  with  discus,  hence  some  people  regularly  dose  metro  in  the  tank  or  mix  them  with  food  to  keep  flagellates  under  check.
When  these  flagellates  multiplies  out  of  control  taking  over  fish's  intestinal  system,  such  hexamital  issues  occur.
Keeping  pristine  water  quality  in  BB  tanks  supported  with  regular  WC  helps  to  avoid  such  diseases.
I  don't  advocate  periodical  de-flagellating  but  having  metro-filled  DIY  foodmix  as  regular  diet  is  not  bad  idea.

Metronidazole  IV  liquid  or  regular  Metrogyl  tablets  (200/400mg),  anything  will  do.

 Venky  ,

Poor  water  quality  ,  stress  ,  insufficeint  Vitamin  C  &  D  in  feed  all  leads  to  such  problems   .

Since  all  other  discus  are  eating  well  ,  you  remove  only  this  discus  in  hospital  tank  and  start  with  very  good  WC  of  75  Daily  to  this  tank  .  feed   well  .  Try  to  post  pcs  if  possible  to  understand  the  problem  better  .  You  can  try  Metro  or  Almond  leaves  in  water  .

My  discus  is  in  the  second  day  of  Metrogyl  treatment.  The  dosage  is  80  gm  to  80  liters  of  water  and  a  50%  waterchange  every  day.  WOW  on  the  second  day  itself  the  wound  has  covered  and  the  fish  is  quite  normal.  It  is  also  taking  little  bit  of  freeze  dried  bloodworm.  After  the  third  dosing.  As  adised  by  Shive  I  will  stop  Metro  for  3  days  and  again  dose  it  for  another  3  consecutive  days.  Thank  you  all  buddys  for  the  valuable  advice.

 Regards
