Won't  Amazonia  II  would  be  enough  by  itself??

How  much  is  the  difference  in  the  plants  growth  on:

 1.  power  sand  &  on  top  of  it  Amazonia  II  vs
 2.  Laterite  and  on  top  of  it  coarse  river  gravel.

I  think  there  is  a  huge  price  difference  between  above  two  options.

 Thanks  for  your  tips,
 Puneet

i  mean  honestly  you  gave  an  option  of  power  sand  so  i  used  it(didn't  cost  anything  Chuckle  )

i  use  ADA  amazonia  II  only  for  my  nano  as  well  as  my  80  litre  tank.  no  power  sand  or  something  like  that.  I  haven't  seen  any  growth  issues  at  all.  if  you  have  deeper  pockets  then  you  can  add  Power  sand  as  it  provides  nutrients  in  the  longer  run  otherwise  amazonia  would  suffice.

Sorry  My  question  wasn't  framed  properly.  I  want  to  know  which  one  would  be  better:

 Amazonia/Amanonia  II     9ltrs

                           OR

ADA  power  sand  2  Ltrs  +  letrite  over  it.

                           OR

Laterite  and  on  top  of  it  coarse  river  gravel.

 Thanks,
 Puneet

Hi  Asim,  please  check  ADA  site  before  saying  so.  Its  POWER  not  powder.  Puneet  is  absolutely  correct.

 Hi  Puneet,
I  just  got  power  sand  along  with  laterite  gravel,  will  be  doing  my  aquarium  this  weekend.  If  you  can  wait  for  2-3  weeks,  can  give  you  feedback  on  it.
 Thanks.

I  have  heard  of  ADA  and  laterite  combo  backfiring  big  time  leading  to  real  bad  algae  problems  ,  but  no  concrete  evidence  so  if  you  have  already  tried  it,  update  us  on  the  results  .

if  you  have  the  budget,  jus  go  for  amazonia  II....without  power  soil  and  without  laterite......ull  have  a  black  base.....
you  could  look  at  controsoil  which  is  a  little  lesser  than  A2

 Hey  guys

 Few   querries  for  planted  tanks

 -  UG  filter  Y/N
 -  Laterite  -  where  can  i  find  in  mumbai
 -  Internal  filter  or  HOB
 -  River  sand  (fine)  or  golden  sand  (coarse)  which  is  preferred
 -  Can  garden  soil  be  used  as  substrate

went  through  the  forums  but  still  got  doubt  with  above  question

 experts  plz  advise  !!

 Hi  Satish,

 My  answers  in  Red.

 -  UG  filter  Y/N  No
 -  Laterite  -  where  can  i  find  in  mumbai  -   check  with  other  hobbyists  or  you  may  find  it  in  nurseries-  if  you  do  pick  up  from  nurseries,  ensure  that  no  other  fertilizers/  chemicals  are  added  to  this,  as  they  could  be  fatal  to  your  fish.
 -  Internal  filter  or  HOB  -  if  you  are  injecting  CO2,  a  HOB  may  not  be  a  good  idea  (would  dissipate  CO2  due  to  surface  agitation).  Best  option  is  an  external  filter,  this  way  you  can  reduce  visible  equipment  in  your  tank.
 -  River  sand  (fine)  or  golden  sand  (coarse)  which  is  preferred-    Coarse  sand  (2-3mm),  fine  sand  would  compact  leading  to  anaerobic  conditions  in  the  substrate.
 -  Can  garden  soil  be  used  as  substrate  -  I  believe  it  can  be  used  as  a  base  layer,  but  precautions  need  to  be  followed.  I  have  never  tried  it,  so  cannot  comment.

Oops,  just  realized  this  is  an  old  topic-  Satish,  I  think  you  should  have  started  a  new  thread.  Mods,  please  advise.

Thanks  for  your  feedback  Ashwin.  I  wanted  to  start  a  new  thread  but  was  reviwing  the  previous  topics  found  this  relevant  to  my  questions  hence  extended  this  rather  than  strting  a  new  one  with  repetitive  questions!!

Any  second  opinions  experts  !!  Esp  laterite  whereabouts  in  mumbai  and  sand  (river  or  golden).

PS  -  Will  be  setting  a  low  tech  tank.

ADA  has  a  sponsored  forum  on  this  website.  It  will  best  to  ask  these  questions  there  to  get  an  informed  answer.  I  hope  you  do  not  shock  them.     Chuckle
