This was one classical trip!
Me: Driver, Logistics,Fish catching and Flora collection.
Trevor: Navigator, Fish care and Time keeper.
Madhu: Fish catcher, Fish Identifier and water changer.
Deepak: Location study, Fish catcher and water changer.
Rufus: Fish catcher, water changer and Flora collector.
A few human interest stories and pics........
It was a last minute decision to explore the Sita river. The planning had been going on for the past year. Being a Naxalite infested area the problems of logistics was daunting. We were keeping a keen eye on the ground situation there and when the Almatti dam trip was postponed we started exploring the posibility of Sita river. Being the time of the start of Monsoons there was a lul in the Naxalite activity and hence a reduction of vigil on the part of the security forces. There was a small window open for us and we decided to go for the opportunity.( Madhu, the reluctance on our part for night fishing was for security reasons!)
But once Madan dropped out due to some reason we too were ready to back out. But then he asked us to proceed. So Trevor and me decided to go. Madan mentioned Rufus as a possible company. Rufus was enthusiastic.
Since the trip was starting the next day morning at 5.30am, we decided to concentrate on B'lore Fish Chasers first. But Friday being a working day they could not make it. So at 6.00pm we called Madhu. We asked him to drop everything that he was doing and take the next bus to Bangalore from salem! He thought we were kidding him. But on assuring otherwise he was keen to join and made it to Bangalore at 4.00am on the day of the trip. That made four of us.
That night on thursday at 8.00pm I called Deepak to ask for some information on the region we were going. On being told about our destination he too was keen to join. So he caught the next bus to Shimoga where we picked him up at 10.45am.
Part of the Bangalore "Fish chasers" group. L to R: Deepak, Madhu, Rufus, Trevor and me.
The two Fish Chasers Madhu and Deepak waiting motionless in the water so as not to scare the fish.
Water changing using Oxygen. Trevor made sure there was no slack here. You ignored the captured fishes at your own peril. Any mistakes and Trevor sir would blast you to the Moon.
Rufus enjoying a fresh plucked Guava. Being the spring time we got to eat a lot of fresh fruits.
Trevor Sir, the Navigator and my station wagon on a lonely stretch of Road.

Some food fruits near the biotopes. Fruit ripened and fell into the biotope. Higher concentrations of fish were found near these over hanging fruit trees.
Jackfruit - Pods.
Gauva fruit.
Cashew fruit with the seed outside the fruit. The cashew tree is one of the only trees to grow on laterite rock. These trees were found at a much higher level. This fruit was not eaten by fish. Collected by our able bodied Fish Chaser Rufus.

More updates,
There are unclaimed articles in my car. They being the following.........
1) A pair of Bata leather slippers.
2) A pair of shorts 32 inch size.
3) A soiled T-shirt 30 inch Size.
4) A opened dried Amla packet.
5) A un-opened pack of Coffee powder.
6) A opened Cocum (Kokam) syrup.
Unless and until guys come forward to claim this by this Saturday, these things are going to be Ruby's play toys. And no Madhu, I am not talking of Trevor's Ruuby!
Murphys Fish chasers axiom # 1256342,
The driver of a fish chasers trip will always end up with articles which are a size too short or a size too large for him to use.
Murphys fish chasers axiom #1256343,
The choice of taste of the edible articles left behind in a fish chasers trip will always be on the negative side of the taste of the driver.
Corollary to Murphys fish Chasers axiom # 1256342,
The driver of a Fish Chasers trip will always end up loosing articles which are very useful and favorite to him!
