 Hi

   I  got  6  bettas  (  5  x  F  /  1x  M  )  from  our  friend  Amey  (thank  you)  couple  of  weeks  back  along  with  3  zebra  Danios.
They  have  settled  in  now  (  I  think).
   I  have  a  30L  X  12W  X  15H  tank.

I  am  planning  to  add  a  total  of  12  Zebra  Danios  (already  looked  up  Affable  @  vile  Parle)
But  currently  what  i  am  seeing  is  that  the  3  Danios  dominate  the  Bettas.  THey  steal  the  Betta's  food  all  the  time.
The  Betta's  are  too  slow.  While  they  are  looking  at  the  worms  the  Danios  dart  around  and  eat  them.
The  Bettas  hardly  get  to  eat  the  worms  with  the  Danios  around.

With  just  3  Danios  if  we  have  this  issue,  what  will  happen  with  12  of  them  ?

   Please  advice

   Sincerely
 Narayan

Zebra  danios  are  lovely  fishes  but  are  too  fast  for  bettas.  They  may  not  harm  the  betta  directly  but  will  be  the  first  to  arrive  at  the  food  always.  So  better  to  have  them  seperate?

It  is  best  to  keep  Bettas  alone.

well,  i  cannot  keep  a  separate  tank  (  will  not  get  clearance  from  the  home  ministry  ).  so  all  of  them   will  have  to  be  in  the  same  tank.

I  have  3  Danios.  Everywhere  it  is  recommended  to  keep  at  least  6  Danios.
Should  i  give  away  the  3  or  can  i  get  3-4  more  and  hope  for  the  best  ?

I  have  two  endlers,  i  will  try  to  get  more  of  them.  A  total  of  10  should  not  be  a  problem  for  the  Bettas  right?

What  i  want  is  just  2-3  species  but  in  a  good  number(  suitable  for  the  tank).
I  love  to  see  them  swim  in  a  shoal.

Shoaling  of  fish  is  in  response  to  a  feeling  of  threat.  they  are  unlikelt  to  experience  this  in  such  a  small  tank  with  other  peaceful  inmates  so  most  fish  may  not  shoal

My  suggestion  -  have  a  few  medium/slow  swimmers  for  the  tank  to  complement  the  bettas

@nraykar:  You  can  think  of  compartmentalizing  your  tank  in  a  creative  way.  Bettas'  always  prefers  to  have  their  own  personal  space.

 Dear  Narayan,

6  Bettas  in  the  single  tank,  would  not  make  it  ideal  for  them  when  they  grow  up  /  or  they  are  adults.   The  male  is  always  a  loner  other  than  mating  time.  Even  in  all  females  group,  there  may  be  dominance  and  bullying  when  you  dont  have  enough  hiding  places.

 Hi  Matrix/  Anandarajkumar

   Thanks  for  your  replies.

I  will  try  to  get  some  broken  pots  and  create  caves  for  them.  I  guess  that  should  help.

I  have  never  seen  the  females  fight,  they  usually  flock  around  together.
The  male  either  keeps  swimming  on  his  own  or  sits  near  the  filter.

Planning  to  get  some  more  endlers  by  next  week.
 Thanks
 Narayan

Honey/Chocolate  gouramis  might  also  do  well  with  bettas...  fast  enough  to  avoid  getting  bitten  and  calm  enough  to  not  nip  at  the  betta  tails.
