Some of us hobbyists from Pune had gone for a short collection trip to nearby lake Garade. It is located about 15km from Kondhwa. Its being used for commercial shrimp culture.
We had planned an early start, 5.30 after a 'brief' refuelling . Inigo (inix) originally from Chennai was also going to accompany us for the trip.
As usual Murphy played spoilsport, and I dint wake up on time. finally at 5.50 i finally got up, and reached the meeting point at 5.54 LITERALLY, amidst some really rotten swear words directed at me by Abhiram
Only me,Adesh,Abhiram had assembled. I was getting skeptical whether the trip would actually happen. But Abhijit arrived, with his truck, and so did Inigo, who unfortunately had lost the way early morning.
We finally proceeded to Kondhwa, where we picked up Humaid and Piyush.
Thats Me,Adesh and Abhiram.
Reached the spot around 7.45,after stopping to explore a small puddle enroute, where we had caught rasbora daniconius, devario aequipinnatus, garra sp.,some crabs last time. Spotted the same species this time also, so did not bother to check it out.
Lake Garade:
Inigo and Prakhar checking out some puddles downstream of the overflow.
Thats our DIY 30 foot net ready to get into action :D
At the lake, we caught some wood shrimps, lots of glassfish, Some loaches, most probably L.Thermalis and tonnes of jalebis. Â
I bet Humaids oscars are going to thank him for being treated to Jalebis in Shrawan Â
Humaid playing around with Nilesh's D5000 and his new 55-200 VR nikkor.
It was a fun trip, i got to hang on to Abhijits truck, which was real fun.
More than that, it was really nice to go on an outing with Pune hobbyists, and i guess FINALLY there is hope for a nice hobby scene out here.
PS: Inigo, i hope you enjoyed the trip
Request Adesh to add more with pics from his cam. |

Yeah, the trip was really ravishing for me as compared to last trip (this time did not get acidity attack )
And as Shubhankar said, this time we saw a lot of enthusiasm from participants. Though there was drop from last time's participants we are managing to have substantial number of hobbyists joining the team. Hope to have more n more joining us in upcoming trips. Having guys like Shubhankar, Abhiram, Humaid and Abhijit is real fun. Inigo, your driftwood is still waiting at my place.
I will try to post some pics in the evening from my camera (note that cameramen were different persons though they were using my camera ) |

Being my first collection trip I was kinda doubtful about how things would go, but the trip was fun right from the start. The guys were so easy to get along and the enthusiasm and knowledge they shed was immense. Prakhar and me will be eagerly waiting for the next trip.
@Shubhankar
Had an awesome time dude, thanks!

I am a regular defaulter on the meets as well as the trips these days.
You guys had fun
The lake looks cleaner or is it just the pictures that make it appear so ?
I am surprised that p. ranga made it home. |

We caught dozens of parambassis sp.; I'm not sure these are Ranga though. I had two pairs of p. ranga already, and added the wild-caught parambassis to the same tank; these have very different body shapes and very much more aggressive. They were taking live food before the day ended; and had killed one and maimed another cloud mountain minnow by morning. Perhaps I'll be able to post comparative photos, if Abhiram eventually makes it with his equipment.
There was almost no mortality, perhaps because we got back within a couple of hours of them being caught.
The lake and its periphery was far cleaner than anything I've seen this close to the city. The water quality was good enough to see fish from the surface. |
