yes,  Preetham.  The  Season  has  started!!!  Very Happy

The  plan  to  go  to  Lakshmana-tirtha  had  been  brewing  for  the  past  3  weeks.  Keeping  a  keen  eye  on  the  metrological  reports  since  the  rains  had  not  yet  waned,  all  the  preparations  was  made.  Risks  had  to  be  taken  and  will  be  taken!

We  started  from  Bangalore  at  exactly  5.30am  (as  usual).  In  high  spirits  we  had  almost  reached  Channapatna  when  we  felt  as  if  the  car  had  gone  over  a  plastic  bottle.  Nothing  to  be  seen  on  the  road,  but.....

We  reached  Kamath  Upachar  just  after  Channapatna  and  had  a  scrumptious  breakfast  of  Mude(Idly  wrapped  in  a  aromatic  leaf)  and  Masala  dose.  Contended,  joking  and  laughing  and  generally  feeling  happy  with  life  we  set  out  again.  We  had  not  travelled  5  Kilometers  when  the  Gear  lever  started  acting  up.  Within  no  time  the  lever  was  unresponsive  with  only  the  second  and  fourth  gear  working.  My  car  refused  to  engage  1st,  3rd  and  the  5th  gear.

Even  the  second  gear  had  to  be  engaged  with  both  my  hands  and  the  fourh  at  a  certain  angle  or  I  was  in  the  Neither-lands  of  the  Gear  world!

Trevor  always  the  practical  person  he  is  commented  “don’t  worry  re.  If  things  turn  worse  we  will  park  the  car  and  take  a  volvo  to  our  destination”(Did  I  mention  I  have  Bindaas  friends?).  Keepin  an  eye  out  for  a  service  station  we  passed  Mandya  and  were  about  to  enter  Srirangapattana.  By  then  Trevor  had  had  managed  to  contact  one  of  his  friends  who  informed  us  about  a  service  station  he  knew  near  Hunsur.

Ignoring  the  accusing  and  contemptuous  eyes  of  the  other  speeding  motorists  at  our  tortoise  pace  (we  were  doing  the  same  thing  earlier  when  everything  was  fine)  we  managed  to  reach  Hunsur  service  station,  only  to  find  it  Chock-a-Block  with  vehicles  for  repair.  A  Call  from  Trevor  to  his  friend  again  got  the  things  moving.  The  problem  was  that  the  Bolt  locking  the  gear  lever  had  fallen  off.

After  the  repair,  we  were  in  high  spirits  again  and  the  topic  revolved  to  our  private  beliefs  of  good  luck.  If  you  have  read  Jim  Corbett,  he  always  believed  in  killing  a  Hamadryad  before  a  particular  hunt.  We  are  not  all  that  blood  thirsty,  I  will  settle  for  a  good  look  at  a  “PYT”,  before  we  reach  the  outskirts  of  Bangalore.  We  hunters  are  a  superstitious  lot,  you  see….

 To  be  continued……

 Regards,
 Nayak.

yep  Shubhankar,  got  the  writers  itch  Chuckle

 continued........

After  the  repair  and  without  any  more  mishaps,  we  managed  to  reach  the  destination.  Cottages  in  an  Coffee  estate  belonging  to  a  friend  of  Trevor  near  Ponnampet.  We  reached  at  around  1.30pm.

We  first  attended  to  the  serious  business  of  a  grand  Lunch  consisting  of  Pork  fry,  Pork  Ghassi  etc  etc(All  Coorgi  style)  washed  down  with  Kinvah-Cabernet  shiraj.  Then  we  explored  the  first  water  body  in  sight.  A  pond  having  Hydrilla  and  lotus,  but  with  no  fish.  A  heaven  for  beautiful  frogs,  the  pics  which  I  cannot  post  here.  Herp  guys,  please  check  my  FB  pictures  in  a  while.

At  around  3.00pm  we  headed  out  to  the  next  water  body,  A  stream  flowing  in  the  backyard  of  the  estate.  The  pathway  was  through  lush  green  Paddy-fields  was  a  sight  to  see.

Catching  fishes  at  the  stream.  The  stream  dries  out  during  April  and  May.  So  it  is  not  perennial.

 To  be  continued......

 Regards,
 Nayak.

 Thanks,  Mudassir.

 The  catch  was....

 Pseudospromenus  cupanus

 Cardina  sp.

 Brachydanio  rerio

 Another  Cardins  sp.

 Mastacembelus  armatus

 Lepidocephalus  thermalis

We  also  caught  a  Puntius  bimaculatus.  By  then  it  was  getting  cloudy  and  in  defence  of  the  delicate  electronic  goods  we  were  carrying  we  decided  to  make  a  tactical  retreat.

And  not  a  moment  too  soon  as  you  can  make  out  from  the  heavily  laden  clouds.  Please  ignore  any  blurring  you  may  see,  since  it  was  clicked  by  the  butler  Chuckle   Any  way  it  rained  all  night,  and  we  spent  the  early  part  of  the  night  sipping  o  Teachers,  Munching  on  Pork(Kerala  style)  and  planning  the  next  day's  strategy.

 Regards,
 Nayak.
