 Looking  to  find  some  female  Dario  dario's  I  found  an  ad  which  said  they  had  imported  them,  and  indeed  I  now  do  have  a  few  D.  dario  couples,  so  hopefully  I'm  able  to  setup  a  breeding  attempt.

 What  the  ad  didn't  say  was  that  the  import  also  contained  another  Dario  species  which  turned  out  to  be  the  Dario  sp.  "Bangladesh"  c.q.  Dario  sp.  "Jaintia  hills".  I  was  able  to  purchase  some  of  these  little  gems.  Tried  to  make  some  couples  of  them,  but  in  hindside  it  looks  like  I've  got  4m/3f,  maybe  even  5m/2f  oh  well,  I've  got  some  and  have  some  females  so  these  are  my  happy  days.

 First  observations:
 These  species  is  a  little  more  shy  then  the  d.  dario's  I  have,  they  hide  more  between  the  plants  and  seldom  venture  in  the  open,  probably  because  they  are  wild  caught  specimens,  and  not  breeded  ones.  Their  build  is  more  like  D.  hysginon  then  like  d.  dario  and  males  look  a  little  more  agressive  then  male  D.  dario's.

 My  pictures:
 males:

 females:

 Info  about  the  species  I  could  find:
 here  (German),  here  (German)  and  here  (English)  any  (other)  info  is  more  then  welcome.

 cheers
 René  Stubbe

 I  have  some  as  well.  I  don't  find  them  to  be  very  shy  actually.  My  bunch  hangs  out  right  at  the  front  of  the  tank,  most  of  the  time.

 @Abhis,  thanks  for  the  info,  I  know  they  are  a  Dario  species,  any  info  about  their  natural  environment?
 (Although  there  are  German  links  in  my  topic  start  and  the  Netherlands  are  neighboring  Germany,  I  prefer  English,  my  knowledge  of  the  German  language  isn't  that  great)

 @beta,  Nice  pic!
 Ok,  maybe  the  shyness  has  to  do  with  the  new  environment  or  the  tank  size  (40*20*20cm)  20L,  we'll  see.

 I've  got  a  few  (biotope)  questions:
 Anybody  knows  about  their  habitat,  rivers,  streams,  stagnant  waters?
 Water  temperatures,  summer/winter,  daily  fluctuations?  maybe  some  plant  suggestions  since  I  was  planning  on  a  biotope  setup.
 Other  species  from  the  region  P.  gelius?,  H.  jerdoni?,  any  shrimps?
 Can  they  be  held  together  in  the  same  tank  with  D.  dario  or  will  that  give  problems?  Will  they  interbreed  with  D.  dario?
 Can  I  presume  that  info  about  D.  dario  is  about  the  same  for  D.  "Jaintia  Hills"?  or  are  localities  very  different  from  each  other?

 I've  got  two  tanks,  the  Rena40  (40*20*20cm)  20L
 Technics:  12V10W  halogen  bulb,  AquaFlow100  Filter,  no  heater.
 Live  stock:  Red  Cherry  shrimp,  Brazos  crayfish  (Cambarellus  texanus)  fish:  Heterandria  formosa  and  now  Dario  sp.  "Jaintia  hills"
 Plants:  Anubias  nana,  JavaFern  (narrow  leaf),  Fissidens  fontanus,  Riccia,  Limnobium  laevigatum,  Nymphoides  aquatica  (bananaplant)

 and  a  Rekord60  (60*30*30)  54L
 Technics:  15W,  6000K  Sera  brilliant  daylaight  lamp,  AquaFlow  200  filter,  no  heater,  BioCO2
 Live  stock:  Red  ramshorn  snails,  RCS,  Amano  shrimp,  mini  amano,  C.  gracilirostris,  P.  gelius,  D.  dario,  H.  jerdoni,  Stiphodon  sp.  leftovers:  D.  margaritatus,  A.  normanni,  overwintering:  T.  albonubes  (I  keep  them  outside,  but  we  had  2  winters  0f  -5C   to  -20C  for  months,  so  playing  save  this  time)
 Plants:  JavaFern  (narrow  leaf  &  sp.  'Trident'),  Crypt,  (don't  know  which  one),  Lomariopsis  lineata,  Limnobium  laevigatum,  F.  fontanus,  Xmass  moss,  Valisneria  'nana'.

 More  pictures  of  both  tanks  are  on  this  forum  in  this  topic  for  those  who  wanna  have  a  look.

 or  for  those  who  are  really  really  interested:
 My  topics  on  two  dutch  forums:
 aquaforum  started  this  year
 venividivissie  from  sept  2007,  my  first  start  in  aquariums.

 The  plant  in  the  second  picture  looks  like  'cyrptocoryne  undulata'  because  of  its  wavy  leaves.  I  may  be  wrong  though,  a  positive  ID  of  cyrps  without  the  flowering  spadix  is  tough.

 @abhijitk,  thanks  for  the  info,  can't  really  remember  what  the  lfs  man  said,  but  undulata  sounds  familliar.

 @arjundogra  &  abhis9,  thanks  for  the  compliments!
