 @all  the  wannabe  james  bonds:
 Please  take  time  to  read  through  the  posts  before  you  get  all  hyped  up  and  deliver  a  rhetoric.
 Be  a  critic  not  a  cynic.

 p.s:  what  the  hell  is  happening  here?  people  are  posting  whatever  without  any  sense/regard/civility  or  whatever.  Thumb Down

Well,  I  was  a  bit  confused  with  the  info  i  had  about  them,  but  did  some  reading  up..  and  its  nearly  impossible  to  get  any  imported  reptiles  in  Legally.

 But  from  what  people  have  told  me,  If  its  imported  -  its  legal  to  keep  (provided  it  is  not  included  in  the  Indian  wildlife  act.)

 -  (I  deleted  it  by  mistake  and  just  realized  it)

 If  you  are  not  sure  then  why  posting  and  showing  your  supremacy.I  remember  a  saying  "  JAck  of  all  ,master  of  none"
 We  also  can  google  as  we  dont  stay  in  china  and  its  not  banned  here  too.

 ANd  back  to  the  poster.First  of  all  forest  departments  and  not  fools  .If  pythons  are  banned  then  they  are  banned  for  a  sense  .And  just  keeping  Pythons  and  monster  fishes  dont  makes  you  a  man.May  be  you  just  want  to  show  off.
 Tommorrow  you  would  get  and  would  need  a  tiger  cub  as  pet  and  blame  the  forest  officer  for  not  allowing  to  keep  them  as  pets.

 When  I  don't  have  any  problem  with  what  Gator  has  posted  before,  then  why  you  have  to  come  and  start  acting  smart.  If  you  don't  have  anything  nice  or  worthwhile  to  say,  stay  away.

 Abhis,

 The  term  Boa  is  often  commonly  used  for  constrictors  (snakes  that  kill  by  suffocating  their  prey).

 Even  small  constrictors  like  sand  boas  are  called  'Boas'

 The  real  Boa  is  the  Boa  constrictor  found  in  South  america.  There  are  variants  and  sub-species  in  this  species.

 The  Pythons  are  also  constrictors  but  are  found  in  Asia  and  Africa.

 @Abhi,

 Please  don't  post  any  specific  instances  of  people  owning  any  Pythons  (legally  or  illegally).  The  James  Bonds  get  all  trigger-happy  with  that.

 @  Marc

 Thanks  for  the  info.  I  will  check  if  there  is  any  Indian  FD  office  in/around  Bombay  and  the  related  paperwork.

 I  am  as  "local"  as  it  can  possibly  get  in  a  city  full  of  (what  these  conservatives  and  police  call)  "outsiders".  Hence,  this  fear  of  "police"  (or  any  "authorities")  is  simply  not  there  if  I  am  doing  everything  by  the  book  .  I  am  not  sure  if  this  applies  elsewhere  in  the  country.

 I  will  share  all  the  reference  material  (and  the  rules)  with  experts  like  you  on  IAH  before  proceeding  with  anything.

 Even  if  I  end  up  discovering  that  importing  and  keeping  pythons  is  not  legally  possible,  I  hope  this  thread  will  still  serve  as  a  reference  for  someone  who  has  this  question  in  the  future.

 Thanks  guys,
 Sid

 PS:  And  not  all  pythons  grow  to  14"  feet.  The  Burmese  Python  is  a  quite  possibly  one  of  the  largest  pythons  in  the  world  and  are  absolutely  a  bad  idea.

 The  absolute  "holy  grail"  of  pet  pythons  (in  my  limited  knowledge)  is  Morelia  viridis,  the  green  tree  python

 Duryodhan,  you  had  been  warned  once  before  for  instigating  flame.  A  good  thread  had  to  be  locked.  Dont  do  this  again  and  you  always  have  the  privilege  of  PMs  for  one  to  one  talks.

 How  good  the  members  were  to  your  Fish  In  The  Bowl  post.  Learn  to  be  polite  and  abide  by  the  forum  discipline.  Take  it  as  a  last  warning.

 Sid  -  Pythons  cannot  be  kept  as  a  pet  or  imported  -  is  well  settled.

 This  thread  will  tell  us  by  how  many  rules/sections/acts/schedules  you  are  prevented  from  keeping  them  as  pets.
