 Hi,

I  have  a  query  related  to  the  declaration  of  appliances  and  other  devices  that  use  electricity  while  applying  for  transfer  of  electricity  meter.

I  have  been  told  that  a  BESCOM  Junior  Engineer  will  visit  my  house  for  inspection  as  part  of  the  meter  transfer  process.  I  have  3  fish  tanks  in  my  house.  Can  I  expect  the  JE  to  charge  a  fine  or  something  for  keeping  multiple  fish  tanks?

 Thanks,
 Vicky

 Hi

   ROFL
Thats  none  of  their  business  what  we  own  and  what  we  not
Its  the  first  time  that  I  heard  that  a  electricity  releted  company  is  charging  for  keeping  tank
I  feel  they  have  no  right  to  charge  you  for  keeping  tanks

I  don't  think  it's  going  to  be  a  big  deal..

We  recently  transferred  our  Power  Company  from  Reliance  to  Tata.  They  basically  have  some  historical  data  of  power-usage  in  your  place  (if  they  don't  have  this,  you  can  provide  this  to  them)..  Then  they  have  some  "estimate"  based  on  the  size  of  the  apartment/house  and  the  number  of  people  living  there.

 It  shouldn't  be  a  problem.

 Cheers,
 Sid

Thanks  guys.  This  is  slightly  reassuring.  But  things  are  a  little  different  in  Bangalore.  You  might  have  seen  that  our  babus  and  politicians  are  always  in  the  news.  I  really  don't  know  what  to  expect.  Sometimes  one  feels  that  one  is  in  Bizzarro  world.

 Any  inputs  from  Bangalore  folks?

All  he  can  ask  is,  how  much  power  aquarium  related  devices  might  consume.  Have  a  rough  idea  about  that  and  if  he  asks,  give  him  that  figure.  As  long  as  you  are  not  running  anything  commercial,  it  shouldnt  matter.

Thanks  Random2.  I'm  hoping  that  the  process  is  completed  without  incident.

Only  if  they  think  you  are  running  a  commercial  business.  Trevor  had  told  me  once  about  some  bill  collector  who  thought  he  was  running  a  fish  store  out  of  his  place.
I  had  ~20  tanks  at  home  and  no  one  ever  asked  me  anything.   Lots  of  hobbyists  have  10  -  20  tanks  without  any  issues.
 You  should  be  fine.

vicky  01  as  i  know  till  now  there  are  no  problems  with  multiple  tanks  if  it  in  the   residence  or  in  companies/shops,  but  the  thing  is  that  there  is  an  rate  difference  in  domestic  and  commercial  use  i.e,  commercial  rate  is  more  than  domestic,  so  the  person  who  has  informed  about  this  may  have  misunderstood  that  you  are  running  business  in  your  house,  and  also  there  are  slabs,  for  first  slab  the  charges  are  less  as  the  slab  increases  the  rate  will  rise  up,  and  also  aquarium  related  equipments  won't  use  much  electricity  as  it  may  not  increase  more  slabs,  there  is  nothing  to  worry  about  this  matter,  enjoy  the  hobby.

I  stayed  in  bangalore  for  12  years  and  anything  can  happen  to  BESCOM   Very Happy  specially  if  you  are  staying  little  outskirts.

Jokes  apart,  but  i  think  it  will  not  be  a  issue  as  that  is  none  of  their  business  and  you  are  not  doing  a  fish  shop  from  your  house..

 Vicky,

I  had  the  similar  incident  when  i  lived  in  Jeevan  Beema  Nagar.  i  was  running  2  90Gl  and  3  40gl  breeders.  its  a  load  of  crock.  they  cant  do  shit  to  you  as  long  as  your  rooms  are  safely  insulated  and  all  water  bodies  are  at  a  safe  distance  from  the  power  source.  its  just  the  meter  man  lookin  for  a  handout.  Tell  him  to  go  take  a  hike.

Hey  guys,  the  JE  will  not  walk  past  beyond  your  Electricity  meter.
He'll  ensure  that  you  have  a  16  Amp  Circuit  breaker  fitted  or  a  fuse  instead,  and  he'll  ensure  that  you  are  not  bypassing  the  meter.
 No  more.
