 Sorry  Gokul,
I  just  happen  to  read  your  post  now!
Well  a  skimmer  is  a  device  by  which  we  remove  proteins  from  the  water!
To  make  things  simpler  have  you  seen  people  churning  butter  milk  for  butter?
Yes  a  Protein  skimmer  also  works  on  the  same  principle!
The  protein  rich  water  is  churned  by  a  power  skimmer  and  all  the  excess  organic  waste  in  form  of  proteins  is  collected  in  the  collecting  cup  and  discarded!  This  is  often  done  to  decrease  the  pressure  on  the  biological  filter  and  to  keep  the  nitrate  level  in  the  safe  zone.
We  all  know  about  the  nitrogen  cycle  -  this  cycle  is  also  prevalent  in  the  marine  systems.  But,  in  FW  tanks  to  ensure  that  the  nitrates  don't  increase  we  administer  partial  water  changes  -  same  can  be  done  in  marines  but  the  cost  of  a  frequent  water  change  is  not  economical  to  the  pocket  and  often  stressful  to  the  fish.
So,  if  we  need  to  have  something  which  removes  the  proteins  before  they  reach  the  canister  of  our  Bio-filters.  To  ensure  that  the  load  on  the  filter  is  considerably  less  and  the  nitrate  level  can  be  mantained  in  the  safe  zone  for  a  longer  period  of  time  we  need  to  have  a  device  which  can  skim  out  the  proteins  in  it's  raw  form  and  put  less  load  on  our  Ceramic  rings  &  bio-BALLS    Chuckle  )
The  best  part  is  you  don't  need  to  bother  about  it's  maturing  and  about  the  bacterial  cultures  -  you  can  just  switch  it  on  and  it  starts  working  -  from  day  one!
Protein  Skimmers  however,  have  their  own  disadvantages  like  anti-bacterial  treatments!  They  cannot  differenciate  between  the  good  and  the  bad!  So,  it  will  even  skim-out  trace  elements  like  iodine  and  heavy  metals  which  are  of  utmost  importance  for  reef  inhabitants  !
I  usually  stop  my  skimmer  for  a  day  when  I  dose  my  reef.
Is  the  concept  clear  or  do  you  need  any  other  info?
 regards,
 aquascapes

 Hadi,

Both  are  good.  Thumb Up  I  use  WEIPRO  2012  &  its  a  external  one  but  I  think  AZOO  is  internal  PS.
