A few pics from a fish market in Calcutta I visited sometime last week.
Clarias magur
Mystus gulio (Nona Tangra) with Glossogobius giuris (Bele).
Channa punctata (Lata)
Chitala chitala (Chitol)
Scatophagus argus (Payra chanda or Payra tuli) with Liza parsia (Silver Mullet aka Parshe in Bengali)
Pangasius hypopthalmus
Catla catla (Catla or Catol) , Ompok pabda (Pabda), Lates calcarifer (Bhetki), Sperata aor (Air) and Amblypharyngodon mola (Mowrala)
Ompok pabda, Sperata aor and Eutropiichthys vacha (Bacha)
Catla catla and Cirrhinus mrigala (Mrigal).
Polynemus paradiseus (Topshe), Ailia coila (Kajoli) and Eleutheronema tetradactylum (Gurjali).
Went late in the night and there was a power cut too. So missed out on lotsa other varieties. |
