 Hi

I  have  made  a  triangular  tank  for  my  living  room....  And  need  help  for  the  lighting  part.....

 Link  for  the  Triangular  Tank
 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=245769#245769

Posting  2  pics  for  the  lighting.......

 Picture  1
I  want  to  know  how  can  I  place  the  tubes  under  the  hood.  Given  are  the  3  options  which  came  to  my  mind  for  the  setup.
The  2  holes  in  the  hood  are  for  the  fan  inlet  and  outlet.

 Picture  2
This  the  picture  of  tube  was  taken  at  a  friend's  place.  This  is  a  thin  tube  ,  around  1-1.5"  in  diameter,  Oreva  manufacturer,  comes  in  different  sizes.  This  one  is  a  28W  tube,  and  lights  just  like  a  CFL  bulb,  no  ballast  needed.  I  wonder  if  I  can  use  this  kind  of  tubes  for  lighting...

 Waiting  for  suggestions  and  comments......

 Regards
 Ansh

 Dear  Ansh

The  tubes  comes  in  4  ft  and  2  feet  lengths.
Which  ones  do  you  propose  to  use.  Also  check  for  the  power.  the  28  watts  one  and  the  14  watts  one(  2  ft)  have  different  color  temperatures.  The  2  ft  ones  are  IMO  5400K  only.
these  are  considered  equivalent  to  T5/T4.

what  is  the  length  of  the  tube...t  hat  you  have  seen???  I  think  you  will  get  2ftr  in  shops...I  also  have  seen  these  are  common...

Wait  for  some  more  expert  opinion...

Again  as  per  my  opinion  if  now  you  are  not  going  for  planted  just  use  one  tube,  because  when  you  will  able  to  get  ready  to  set  a  planted  tank  those  tubes  will  lost  there  power,  right??

Also  if  your  planted  tank  is  90gal,  then  you  need  min  (90*1.5)what  to  (90*3.5)watt  so  you  can  easily  understand  your  three  28watt  tubes  will  not  be  enough.

Another  issue  is  your  tank  height(2ft),  in  your  other  thread  early  posts  from  JACK--  good  to  go  for  MH.

Other  issue  is  due  to  this  huge  light  setting  your  water  will  be  warm  enough,  so  some  more  fans  also  required…

Thanks  Partha  for  your  reply  !!

I'm  planning  to  go  for  2ft  tubes.....  I  will  see  if  I  can  get  tubes  of  more  wattage  in  the  same  category.....
Are  these  tubes  available  in  more  wattage  ???

Extra  fan  for  the  hood  will  not  be  an  issue.....

MH  are  not  at  all  in  the  picture  reason
 1.  Very  Expensive  (or  you  can  say  out  my  budget)
 2.  Power  conusmption  is  very  high
 3.  Produce  a  lot  of  heat  ,  I  might  have  to  get  an  A.C.  for  my  room
 4.  MH  can  not  be  fitted  in  the  hood,  so  new  setup  for  the  MHs  and  waste  of  money  for  the  already  made  hood.....

So  a  lot  of  reasons  for  not  going  for  MH....

 Regards
 Ansh

 Regards.

Thanks  Yaza  for  your  reply  !!

I  was  also  going  through  some  of  the  manufacturers  and  came  across  this  link........

 http://www.havells.com/product.aspx?s=114

I  dont  think  so.  CFLs  cant  compete  with  MHs.  Thumb Down
It  lacks  the  depth  penetration  and  has  much  lower  eficiency(in  terms  of  providing  light  for  plant  growth)  because  of  its  design.

PLs  seem  to  be  much  much  better  option.  Look  at  something  like  this  :  http://www.lampspecs.co.uk/Light-Bulbs-Tubes/Insect-Trap-Compact-lamps/PLL-4-Pin-36-Watt-Blacklight-BL350-Fly-Killer-Tube-36W

Philips  and  Osram  are  the  most  trusted  and  easily  available  brands  among  the  hobbyists.

What  is  that  tube  pic  you  have  put  up  ?  It  looks  like  a  T5  tube  light  or  is  it  something  else  ?

Its  a  kind  of  light  which  turns  just  like  a  bulb/CFL....  and  not  like  a  tubelight  which  blinks  first.....
There  was  no  ballast  or  any  such  thing  connected  to  this  one  ......

So  is  that  a  T5  tube,  even  i'm  not  sure  about  it.....  No  knowledge  about  T5-T8  etc.

I  looks  like  t5  to  me.  Is  the  bulb  like  a  fluorescent  tube  ?
