 Hey  Folks

After  cutting  down  on  Shrimp  Keeping,  Have  been  planning  to  have  a  couple  of  Planted  Tanks.  Ws  brooding  over  a  scape  for  a  long  time  and  today  after  2  frustrating  conference  calls  needed  a  stress  buster,  so  kickstarted  the  tank.

This  tank  will  be  started  using  DSM  (Dry  Start  Method)  after  the  plants  grow  in  a  bit  then  will  flood  the  tank.   Specifications  are  as  below

 Tank           :  18x18x15(H)  Inches

Lighting     :  Currently  illuminated  with  Two  T8  Tubes  which  is  4  feet  and  spread  across  2  tanks,  Once  flooded  it  will  get  either  a  2x18W  PLL  or  2x36W  PLL

Filteration:  None  as  of  now  but  will  have  a  1000L/H  HOB  with  ADA  Bio  Rio  once  flooded

Substrate  :  ControSoil  (4mm)  at  the  base  and   ControSoil  (2mm)  on  top

Hardscape  :  Seasoned  Driftwood  (I  just  love  this  piece),  Will  add  rocks  later  on  to  add  some  character  if  required

 CO2            :  Pressurized  once  flooded

 Dosing        :  Not  yet  decided

Flora            :  Just  HC  for  now  (I  am  ridiculously  partial  to  this  plant   Very Happy     ),  Will  be  adding  another  one  or  two  varieties  once  flooded,  One  of  which  will  be  Staurogyne  Tropica

 Here  comes  the  pictures

 Hardscape  in  place

Nothing  in  the  middle,  Its  all  ControSoil,  it  comes  in  2  grain  sizes,  2mm  and  4mm,  So  i  have  4mm  Layer  at  the  bottom  topped  with  2mm  Layer.

 Hi  Seetharam,

Good  Start!  No  wonder  you  seemed  to  be  busy  today.

Just  2  things  that  come  to  my  mind

 1.  IMO,  turning  the  wood  a  little  clock  wise  will  show  off  the  hardscape  and  will  cover  the  current  open  area  on  the  left
 2.  Also,  you  could  try  and  elevate  the  wood  piece  to  complement  the  height  of  the  tank

As  always,  would  like  to  see  the  progress  of  your  tanks.  All  the  best!

 Regards,
 Surya

I  set  this  up  in  1.5  hours,  I  was  doing  that  when  you  called   Smile

I  wanted  to  rotate  it  but  there  is  a  extension  of  the  wood  which  prevents  it  to  be  turned  more,  But  i  have  an  idea  for  that  empty  space  (Staurogyne  Tropica)

Elevating  beyond  this  would  have  consumed  a  lot  of  Soil,  Plus  i  would  have  had  to  keep  some  barricade  to  prevent  the  whole  slope  from  collapsing  once  flooded,  So  did  max  possible  and  left  it,  I  have  some  ideas  around  filling  that  empty  space  on  top,  But  need  to  think  of  the  best  possible  option.

And  Thank  You  for  this  Beautiful  Piece  of  Driftwood   Very Happy

Nice  to  see  the  aquascaping  forum  back  in  action.

I  was  so  looking  forward  to  see  someone  like  you,  using  and  reviewing  about  controsoil.  I'll  be  eying  this  thread  at  every  update.

Scape  wise,  good  kick  start  but  was  expecting  more  out  of  it.  And  you've  got  to  cover  the  ugly  sawed  mound  on  the  top.

Nice  start  Seetharam   Thumb Up  ...  Love  the  driftwood...
One  question  here:  How  do  you  maintain  the  moister  level  inside  the  tank?

Nice  start  bro  but  I  am  missing  a  slope  (Left  back  to  right  front)and  some  rocks  seriously  in  the  scape.  When  the  HC  will  fill  in,  the  scape  will  look  real  flat  otherwise.  As  it  is  just  the  start,  you  can  give  it  a  second  thought.

And  if  possible  add  Staurogyne  Tropica  right  now.  Another  plant  which  will  grow  nice  with  DSM.

Thanks  Guys  ,  This  scape  is  far  from  complete,  By  the  time  im  done  with  this  scape,  it  will  be  transformed   Very Happy

@Surya  &  Tirtha  -  I  feel  the  elevation  is  enough,  Maybe  the  picture  taken  from  a  lower  angle  is  not  giving  the  right  impression.  But  let  me  see  if  i  can  give  a  little  more  elevation.

@  Tirtha  -  Rocks  are  definitely  gonna  go  in  there,  As  with  all  my  scapes  i  end  up  fiddling  around  till  i  am  satisfied   Very Happy   But  did  not  have  much  time  today  to  brood  over  that  as  i  had  to  jump  on  another  conference  call,  Some  work  for  the  weekend   Smile  .

I  can  see  the  slope  but  it's  too  little.  It  has  to  be  more.  Otherwise  the  moment,  you  will  add  water,  it  will  be  flat.  I  lerned  it  in  a  hard  way.   Sad
