I've  been  looking  on  this  forum  and  the  internet  for  information  on  an  indian  dwarf  puffer  biotope.  So  far  I  know  that  they  are  from  a  river  in  the  Kerala  region,  specifically,  the  Padma  River.  I  have  found  some  information  an  Indian  biotope,  but  that  is  too  broad,  I  would  like  to  narrow  it  down  to  a  specific  river/area  where  these  fish  are  found.  If  anyone  has  any  information  on  this  I  would  really  appreciate  it.  I  want  to  know  correct  substrate,  plants,  and  what  other  things  i  can  use,  such  as  driftwood,  or  any  other  kind  of  wood,  river  rocks,  things  like  that.  Thank  you  in  advance.

 fulafish,

 welcome  to  IAH

I  dont  think  these  are  endemic  to  any  particular  river  system.  Probably  found  in  rivers  in  Kerala  and  Karnataka  (maybe  TN  too,  not  sure).

I  remember  this  was  discussed  in  last  couple  of  months.  Please  search  for  it.

Also  look  into  Etroplus  canaransis  trip  thread.  I  am  sure  these  were  spotted  in  the  trip  and  there  is  information  on  the  biotope.

 EDIT:
Here  is  the  link  to  recent  discussion  -  http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=24429&highlight=puffer

Thanks  for  your  all  your  replies  and  the  links  you  posted  they  are  very  helpful.  From  looking  at  the  pictures  it  doesnt  look  like  there  are  any  plants  submerged  but  mostly  river  rocks  and  logs.  I  might  be  wrong  but  can  anybody  confirm  or  give  me  information  on  any  plants  that  grow  in  their  habitat?

I  have  caught  a  lot  of  puffer  fish  from  the  river  which  is  near  my  hometown(  Vaikom,  kerala).  These  fish   prefer  to  come  to  the  banks  during  the  afternoon.   The  plants  mostly  seen  near  the  banks  are  waterlilies(  not  the  ordinary  one,  but  the  one  which  is  delicate  and  having  small  flowers)  and   cabomba.

thanks  morris3473,  what  is  the  river  called  where  you  catch  them?  Is  there  driftwood,  tree  roots,  or  smooth  rocks  in  the  river?  Which  cabomba  species  grows  there  I  only  know  of  cabomba  that  grows  in  central  and  south  america.  I'm  guessing   the  water  lily  that  grows  there  is  the  nymphaea  stellata  right?  It's  the  all  green  one.

Hey,  I  am  going  to  my  home  town  this  Sunday  and  will  collect  as  much  details  as  i  can   along  with  some  photos  .

But  the  water  lilies  which  is   available  in  the  river  is  not  nymphaea  stellata  .
The  water  lily  which  i  mentioned  is   this.

 and  these  are  the  cabomba

I  will  upload  my  pictures  by  Monday.

Similarly  the  name  of  the  river  is  Muvattupuzha  River.
Muvattupuzha  is  a  place  which  is  around  40  km  away  from  my  home  town.

Check  this  Video.  In  their  natural  habitat  in  river  kumaradhara.  We  spotted  these  only  in  pairs.  The  place  was  full  of  boulders  and  algae.
 Chk  this  Thread.
