 Hi  Beta,

The  Schistura  Sp  from  Kaigal  stream  looks  a  little  washed  out,  it  had  great  colouration  when  it  was  caught.  Was  this  snap  taken  after  acclimitisation  in  your  tank  or  were  these  taken  soon  after  bringing  them  to  Chennai?

 Regards
 Bala

They  were  taken  soon  after  Balaji  gave  them  to  me.  They  are  still  in  a  BB  tank.  Colors  should  be  out  once  they  go  into  a  well  set  tank.

Beta!  You  are  truly,  madly,  deeply  a  bad  guy!  You  are  a  tease  and  you  poke  me  and  make  fun  of  my  non  existent  knowledge  about  fishes.  ¬†Punch

I  thought  I  will  say  this  with  a  serious  face  just  to  break  the  monotony  of  'great  pics',  'genius',  'exceptional  hobbyist'  etc  remarks  that  you  routinely  get  for  this  thread.

On  a  more  serious  note,  I  was  also  wondering  on  Maulik's  lines  -  How  you  all  remembers  so  many  scientific  names  which  is  quite  difficult  to  pronounce  also.  Please  enlighten  us.

Also  tell  me  if  you  have  any  native  fishes  that  you  can  give  away.  You  might  be  knowing  that  I  keep  coming  to  Chennai  every  now  and  then.  :p

I  know  most  of  the  scientific  names  of  the  common  ones  because  I  have  been  keeping  fish  for  sometime  now.
For  the  others  I  usually  refer  to  books,  forums,  scientists  and  hobbyists  who  have  better  knowledge  than  me.  Like  Suraj  said,  when  you  are  interested  in  something  you  would  try  and  learn  as  much  as  possible.

On  and  off  I  do  have  fishes  to  give  away  but  the  ones  that  I  have  now  are  difficult  to  breed  so  usually  they  only  reach  the  Lotus  feet.

This  is  my  river  tank.  I  call  it  'Sucking  stones  on  the  banks  of  the  Buckingham  Canal'.
It  has  my  Loaches,  Sicyopterus,  Parapsilorhynchus,  Glyptothorax  and  Pseudolaguvia.
I  dose  5ml  of  PMDD  for  algae  every  2  days.  No  Co2  for  the  tank.  I  have  2  fans  running  24x7  to  keep  the  water  temperature  below  28C.

 Lepidocephalichthys  guntea

 Lepidocephalichthys  menoni

 Hi  Vyas,

Here  is  a  pic  of  my  Horadandia  atukorali  tank  courtesy  of  our  friend  Hayath.

Beta:  Thanks  so  much...They  are  nice.....Dont  really  care  if  they  are  photogenic  or  not...What  is  the  size  of  that  Tank...would  want  to  try  the  S.griseus  again  and  since  you  have  success  with  them..would  like  to  replicate  as  much  as  possible....which  of  your  loaches  share  that  tank

BTW  not  satisfied  with  two  pics...More  please.........

Abhishek:  You  are  welcome  to  visit.  You  are  likely  to  find  Horadandia  in  stagnant  or  slow  moving  waters.  I  think  parts  of  Kerala  would  be  a  better  place  to  look  for  them.

Vyas:  The  tank  is  48x18x24.  I  have  a  HOB,  power  filter  and  an  external  canister  filter.  I  will  increase  the  flow  once  the  plants  do  better.

 The  fishes  inside:
 Glyptothorax  sp.
 Pseudolaguvia  muricata
 Lepidocephalichthys  menoni
 Schistura  savona
 Schistura  sp.
 Mesonoemacheilus  petrubanarescui
 Nemacheilus  stigmofasciatus
 Parapsilorhynchus  sp.
 Puntius  narayani?
 Bhavania  australis?
 Aborichthys  elongatus
 Sicyopterus  griseus

I  would  probably  avoid  the  Schistura  savona  (Irritates  my  Parapsilorhynchus),  Glyptothorax  and  Psuedolaguvia  (The  Sicyopterus  eat  the  frozen  bloodworms,  frozen  brineshrimp  and  live  tubifex  meant  for  these  cats.)
Have  a  ready  supply  of  algae  for  them.  ¬†They  don't  seem  to  eat  hair  algae  though.

Beta,  the  tanks  look  awesome,  algae  and  all.   Lighting?  Don't  see  them  in  the  first  pic.
