I  have  this  Aquazonic  light  fitting  with  4  tubes  of  54W.  These  are  12000K  rating  tubes.

Q1:  To  figure  out  whether  I  have  sufficient  lighting  using  essabee's  chart,  I  need  to  figure  out  whether  these  tubes  are  T5  or  T5HO.  There  is  nothing  printed  on  the  tubes.  How  do  I  ID  this?

Q2:  I  have  algae  issues  and  maybe  the  12000K  is  to  blame.  I  checked  at  least  a  couple  of  LFS  in  Bangalore  and  nobody  had  8000K  tubes.  Where  in  Bangalore  do  I  find  these  tubes?

 Regards
 KD

 Hi,

These  are  T5HO  tubes.  The  Normal  Output(NO)  tubes  of  the  same  size  is  rated  for  28W.

Not  seen  too  many  8000K's  but  you  could  find  6500K  T5HO's  at  BVK  Iyengar  Road.

@Yajur:  My  algae  problem  is  most  probably  coming  from  that  fact  that  it  is  in  the  3rd  week  of  startup.  But  I've  seen  a  number  of  posts  where  people  have  attributed  algae  problems  to  12000K  tubes.  If  that  is  a  fact,  then  maybe  my  algae  problem  can  be  attributed  20%  to  the  tubes  and  80%  to  the  startup.  Again,  if  that  is  a  fact,  I  might  as  well  err  on  the  safe  side  by  switching  to  8000K  so  I  don't  land  up  with  algae  problems  again  later  in  the  tank  life.

 Saikumar,

I  have  spoken  to  many  of  the  LFS  that  use  these  12000K  tubes  on  their  tanks  and  they  seem  quite  happy  with  it.  But  I's  rather  trust  an  IAH  opinion  than  an  LFS  opinion.

Thanks  a  lot  guys   Cheer  .  I  found  Philips  54W/865  T5HO  6500K  tubes  at  Mahaveer  electricals  on  BVK  Iyengar  road.  The  roads  in  that  area  is  quite  an  experience  Wall Bang  !!
And  for  those  others  who  are  interested,  note  that  neither  the  tube  nor  the  packaging  has  any  mention  of  the  K  rating.  But  the  data  sheet  confirms  the  K  rating  and  this  is  available  at
 Philips  Master  TL5HO  54W/865  1SL

 Regards
 KD
