 Hey  guys  ...
I  have  a  24X12X12  and  the  current  substrate  is  river  sand.
I  want  to  change  it  to  laterite,  peat  and  sand.
Could  the  gurus  please  advise  me  on  order  and  quantity  of  the  same?

Looking  to  have  a  low  cost  low  maintenance  aquarium.

 Cheers
 aJ

Maintaining  a  sand  bottomed  tank  is  a  bit  difficult   since  cleaning  it  is  a  hassle.Since  you  are  changing  the  substrate,  i'd  advice  you  to  go  for  a  layer  of  laterite  and  peat  at  the  bottom  topped  with  some  coarse  gravel.

 Hi,

first  layer  can  be  soilrite  (peat  +  vermiculite)  or  coco  peat...  (i  have  mixed  both  in  my  current  setup  and  kept  as  first  layer)....then  you  could  add  potting  soil  or  humus  (chemical  free)  as  the  second  layer  and  then  top  it  up  with  coarse  gravel  (  you  will  get  haridwar  river  gravel  here  in  lfs)...pm  me  if  you  want  to  know  where....do  read  some  of  the  earlier  posts  for  quantity  of  peat  vs  tank....Trevor  and  Madan  did  mention  on  their  quantity  quite  some  time  back....

 Good  luck!!

 Cheers,
 Binesh
