Oh
I don't think cichlids really "eat" their young. I think they are trying to save them by swallowing them. The outcome is the same, but my point is that their intentions are honorable. When my jags had their first batch of fry, both parents used to pick up babies that wandered too far from their corner of the tank and then spit them back onto the rest of the bunch. Then one day, they ate the babies. I think the parents did that because the stress of bringing the babies back to a safe place all the time became too much for the parents to handle.
I'm sure Adolf will get better at fatherhood the next time.
All the best with the next batch!

I wasn't expecting any fry Bros. These are practice runs. There will be many more. I've seen this dozens of time before with my previous fish. I'm happy that my fish have finally matured and I have been sexed definitively by nature herself.
Thanks for your encouragement. |

Follow your heart. If you like one and the price is right, get it. I would have. There's always the suspense and excitement in trying something new. |

Hi Rocky,
I'm no FH expert, but I think that fish looks more like a red devil than an FH. If you google for info on red devils, you'll find that the color of the fish in that photo is one of the colors that a red devil can be. I have a red devil, and I can tell you that the shape (or profile) of the fish in your photo matches the shape of my red devil.
The experts here can provide more info. My suggestion would be that you do your research before buying the fish. If the LFS owner is calling that fish a white FH, then the price he quotes will be a reflection of the rarity of a white FH. If the experts agree that it is a red devil, then the price that you pay should be something consistent with the price of a red devil.
Thanks,
Vicky |
