It is best to remove those snails manually. You can also keep clown loach to eat them. |

You are most probably over feeding and snails took advantage of it. Its probably Malaysian Trumpet Snails(MTS). Manual removal would be helpful in addition to adding some snail eaters-Botias maybe... |

Hello Kunal,
They usually come attached to plants & driftwoods which you might have introduced in the tank.. remove as many as you can physically in the initial stage to control.
Cheers,

Snail explosion in often due to accumulation of mulm in the tank.
Reduce feeding, clean substrate as much as you can.
I had similar problems in a similar tank with angels, i used glutaraldehyde, but had to remove the fish.
In case you are trying to introduce loaches, please remember that they will be permanent addtions to your tank.
Trying to catch a loach in a planted tank is very tedious.
Clean the tank, increase filteration, remove by hand. |

Hi,
I am facing the same problem, but mine one attaches to the plant and roams there.
Loaches I cant introduce because they will uproot the plants
Sandeep cleaning the setup with Potassium permanganate, and also washing the new plants with the solution will it help?
Can I introduce Assasin Snail in a fully planted setup? Because they eat up snails. |

Hi guys
I have recently come across a pair of Malasian Trumpet snails. I was planning to introduce them to my low tech planted setup. However the opinion on the benefits of theses snails is pretty divided . They are supposed to areate the substrate same way as earthworms do to soil.
The major danger apart from a population explosion that I am afraid of is, that they carry certain parasites like flukes which affect humans . Can anyone tell me wether I should keep them or get rid of them. |

1. Malaysian Trumpet Snails (TMS ) venture out from substrate in night. Put some lettuce in the tank at 2-3 places. Next morning you will find lots of TMS feeding on leaves. You can then pick up lettuce carefully thus removing lots of snails with it.
2. Always treat new plants in solution of pottasium permegnate solution for about 10-15 mins and rinse them in clean water before planting . This would destroy any parasites or their eggs on the plants.
3. Azoo has a good snail killer which doesnt affect fishes. Use in your tank . Use it in same qty and at same time once a day for 3-4 days. This dilutes the calcium of snails shell and kills them.
4. No amount of reducing feed will help in controlling snails as they usually are in huge qty and there may be already laid eggs.
Hope above helps.

Guys!!
I tell you what assasin snail control the trumpet snail explosion superbly!!!
I had the same problem last year. Added 4 assasin snails (hero's) there were countless number of trumpets.... assasins have turned the tables.
Now there are lots n lots of trumpet snail shells :-)
Assasin snails are also good to watch, they are active, always will be on the hunt for food, good scavengers and hardy ones as well..
From my experience am 100% sure that they will not eat live plants.
P.S: But the guy from the LFS told they will breed only in brackish water but he is wrong. I have 20 odd of em' now :-)

If u do not buy snails that came from its plants in vivo. The best way to get rid of them is not just a piece of cucumber or lettuce in the cradle and wait a couple of hours with the light off. Incidentally, this is best done at night. |
