 Hi  Syed

IMO  86watt  light  is  bit  less  for  your  tank  size.  Seniors  can  throw  some  light  Smile  on  appropriate  wattage  needed.

And  min  8  hours  of  lighting  is  suggested.

 Regards

IMO  melting  has  got  nothing  to  do  with  lighting.

What  seniors  say  ,  melting  is  a  signal  of  lack  of  Macros....I  have  little  knowledge  of  nutrients.

 Regards

 @  hems,

I  wont  suggest  for  the  split  lighting.  As  when  you  start  the  lighting  period,  the  photosynthesis  might  not  occur  immediately.  It  will  take  time  for  the  photosynthesis  to  occur.  And  you  switch  off  the  light  in  3hrs.  So  the  photosynthesis  is  not  occurring  continuously.

In  addition,  the  lighting  is  only  2  WPG.

 Which  plants  are  melting  off?

How  old  is  the  setup?  More  than  one  month,  then  it  is  supposed  to  be  8hrs  per  day.

 @hems

The  photoperiod  should  be  8hrs  a  day  and  if  you  provide  it  at  a  stretch  then  would  be  better  as  mentioned  by  Shelly.

Are  you  using  any  reflectors  for  your  lights??  if  you  are  not  using  any  then  a  lot  of  it  is  going  waste.  A  good  reflector  with  the  lights  is  also  very  important.  That  CFL  wont  provide  you  any  penetration  as  your  tank  is  18"  tall.

A  major  reason  for  melting  of  plants  is  lack  of  nutrients,  but  as  you  dont  have  a  CO2  setup  (a  pressurized  one)  it  will  be  a  problem  if  you  increase  the  dosage  of  nutrients  as  it  may  invite  algae.  In  case  you  decide  to  increase  the  dosage  better  ensure  consistent  supply  of  CO2.

Thank  you  Shelly  and  Vijendra  for  your  feedback

Now  I  have  increased  photoperiod  to  7  Hrs,  but  stll  splited  in  two  timings  morning  8.00  to  10.00  and  evening  6.30  to  11.30  for  now.
Will  see  results  (  any  algae  problem  or  heat  problem  )  and  keep  continuos  8  Hrs  after  two  weeks.
 Is  it  OK???

 Hi  Hemesh,

After  3-4  months,  do  you  still  feel  that  the  split  timings  are  working  good  for  you?  (2  hours  in  the  morning  and  remaining  hours  in  the  evening)
You  have  mentioned  the  results  of  1  day.
But  over  a  period  of  few  months,  what  is  the  result?

 Regards
 Sujo

Its  not  that  you  will  not  have  alage  100%.  But  if  the  other  parameters  are  not  taken  care  too,  it  can  cause  alage.

Even  I  am  yet  to  try  this  split  period  of  timing  as  my  tank  has  a  serious  Staghorn  alage.  So  I  am  going  for  a  split  timing  and  going  to  check  if  this  will  control  the  algae.
