Nayak,  I'd  spotted  another  Barilius  around  these  areas  when  I'd  come  down  last  month.  Wonder  if  it  was  Barilius  bendelisis?

 Hmmm....now  am  not  sure....

Thanks  for  that  pic  Balaji,  Kantaka  is  supposed  to  have  a  tough  dorsal  spine.  The  fish  Nayak  has  posted  has  a  feeble  spine.

So  it  could  be  O.  godavariensis  /  thomassi.......lemme  check  and  confirm.

Nayak,  what  would  be  the  size  of  the  fish?

Thank  you  Nayak  for  putting  across  the  wonderful  presentation  of  the  field  trip.Everyone  of  us  enjoyed  the  trip  and  delighted  with  meeting   the  new  persons.  Smile

Preetam  once  again  demonstrated  his  GoldenTouch  Chuckle   Chuckle

It  was  also  interesting  to  note  that  most  of  the  guys  soon  learnt  the  art  of  netting  the  fishes  quickly  &  also  pack  them  neatly.  Thumb Up  The  mortality  rate  was  zero.

With  more  trips  in  the  coming  months  look  forward  to  meet  more  and  more  new  hobbyists  and  join  us  on  the  field  trips.  Very Happy

 Regards
 Dinesh.

The  same  place  you  had  been  with  trevor  and  me.  4  years  back?

Yes  Nayak.  Unforgettable!  Extremely  approachable  and  patient  with  newbie  queries.  Was  a  perfect  break-in  for  me.  Trevor....  made  me  feel  so  much  at  ease.  Cherish  the  time  I  spent  with  him.  I  am  sure  Nayak  the  first  timers  would  have  learned  a  lot.  The  camaraderie,  persists  we  can  discern.  Trevor's  legacy.  Miss  him.  Super  that  the  fishchasers  are  back  in  action  and  doing  memorable  collection  trips.

Ok,  I  correct  my  earlier  identification.....

 It  is  O.  thomassi.

                     3)  Dorsal  spine  weak

Guys,  here  is  my  catch  at  the  trip..  waited  for  them  to  settledown,  had  to  borrow  a  camera  to  capture  these  beauties..

At  Shivanasamudram  we  were  despiratly  trying  to  catch  the  rosy  barb  males  which  were  elusive  to  our  nets..  but  our  efforts  were  rewarded  by  these  Giant  danios  and  a  lone  indian  glass  fish..  of  course  I  netted  some  wood  shrimps  and  Glass  shrimps  aswell,  but  these  shrimps  are  into  hiding  mode  and  found  a  good  spot  behind  my  mosswall.

The  giant  danio..  The  biggest  of  them  all  &  has  an  appitite  to  match  his  size..

The  smaller  one..  They  are  the  pandavas  of  my  tank   Chuckle

The  glass  fish..  he  feels  as  though  he  just  got  a  free  ticket  to  a  theme  park,  he  just  cant  stay  put..  Jester

And  from  Muthuthi..  the  famous  fish  of  this  trip,  ID  yet  to  be  comfirmed..  Got  two  of  them.
This  guy  thinks  he  is  a  relative  of  ghatothkach..  gobbles  up  every  thing  thrown  in  to  the  tank  and  have  given  me  a  clean  trim  of  my  dwarf  swords..

 More  to  follow..

WOW  absolutely  Fantastic.  We  dont  have  such  places  near  Mumbai.  and  even  the  ones  which  we  have  getting  out  of  mumbai  itself  is  a  laborious  task  with  the  traffic  and  roads  eating  up  considerable  time.  We  are  trying  for  one  night  stayover  trip  lets  see  where  it  takes  us.

Ramdas..  Banglore  is  no  better  either,  with  all  the  metro  and  ring  road  fly-overs  work  going  on.
But  the  good  thing  here  is  we  got  nice  places  for  collection  trips  and  are  pretty  close,  Any  how  best  of  luck  for  your  trip  and  hope  you  have  a  nice  catch..  Smile
