Nice  tank  setup  when  u  like  to  convert  it  to  reef  then  tigger  fish  won't  work  in  reef.

And  I  like  blue  backround  stuff.

 Hi,

Do  post  a  pic  of  your  sump....

Before  you  do  convert  it  to  a  reef  tank,  there  are  a  few  things  you  need  to  do...

 1.  Replace  the  crushed  coral  substrate  with  aragonite  sand..

 2.  Your  pumps  need  to  facing  the  rocks.  You  will  need  to  add  a  few  more..

 3.  Upgrade  your  lighting,  the  lighting  you  have  is  very  low..

 4.  Get  a  better  skimmer...  Reef  octopus  or  bubble  magus..

 what  about  chiller?

If  you  intend  to  maintain  corals  in  the  long  run,  better  to  budget  for  your  chiller.

If  its  only  FOWLR,  then  better  budget  on  a  good  skimmer.

 @Deba:  Thanks

@yajur:  Will  the  trigger  harm  the  corals??  I  already  got  few  and  he  doesnt  bother  them..

@Ks:  I  stay  in  Pune  where  temp  is  pretty  much  cool  even  in  summers..do  i  still  need  a  chiller?

Do  comment  so  that  i  can  rectify  my  mistakes...

Well,  you  temp  should  be  29c  or  below  and  should  be  stable..

As  for  the  sump,  throw  out  everything  in  the  last  compartment,  you  can  replace  it  with  good  quality  carbon  and  some  of  the  rocks  from  your  main  display..

As  long  as  you  are  able  to  maintain  the  temp  between  27  to  29,  you  can  maintain  the  corals  in  the  long  run.

 Else,  chiller  is  a  must.

 Hey  Everyone,

Thanks  for  your  comments.  Can  you  let  me  know  what  changes  i  need  to  make  in  my  sump  as  GatorX  mentioned  that  i  need  to  remove  the  bio  balls,  filter  sponge  and  ceremic  rings  from  my  sump.  What  else  do  i  need  to  add  or  remove  in  order  to  start  with  reef.  Also,  do  i  need  to  dose  my  system  with  Calcium  and  Kh  everytime  or  just  a  weekly  water  change  is  fine??
Honestly  i  have  not  yet  done  a  water  change  for  my  system  but  would  be  starting  soon.  My  Phosphate  levels  are  very  high,  any  ideas  how  to  get  them  down.  Would  this  be  because  i  dont  use  ro/di  unit  or  is  it  something  else.  My  LFS  gave  me  Prodac  Ocean  Reef  Salt  for  my  water  changes.  Any  inputs  on  this??

The  coraline  algae  in  my  tank  grows  a  bit  and  then  disappears,  any  reason  for  this??

Sorry  for  so  many  questions  but  wanted  some  clarity  from  the  experts  as  i  dont  trust  the  LFS  guys.

 Thanks  and  Regards

Bascially  clear  out  your  sump  completely,  keep  only  the  skimmer  in  it...  You  can  move  a  few  rocks  to  the  sump  from  your  main  tank..

You  don't  need  to  dose  anything  to  your  setup..  Just  do  weekly  water  changes  of  10-20%  with  Red  Sea  salt,  as  for  the  Prodac  Ocean  Reef  Salt  can't  say  as  i've  never  used  it.   There  is  no  need  for  a  RO-DI  unit  yet.

Coraline  algae  won't  grow  with  high  phosphates.

As  suggested,  will  remove  all  filter  media  from  the  sump.
Can  you  let  me  know  how  to  get  the  phosphates  down.  Was  doing  some  research  online  and  got  to  know  that  you  should  not  use  tap  water  for  top  offs  and  water  changes  and  so  was  looking  for  a  ro/di  unit.  So  can  i  do  water  changes  using  tap  water  or  will  it  increase  the  phosphates??  I  am  also  facing  problems  with  some  brown  algae  growing  on  the  glass  which  i  have  to  clean  every  day.  Its  more  like  a  diatom  bloom  but  its  surprising  as  the  tank  is  well  established.  Any  ideas??

 Regards
