 Hi  ,

Right  now  I  have  3  female  &  3  male  in  my  Scarlet  Badis  tank.  One  female  is  looks  like  fully  loaded.

Is  she  going  to  spawn!!   I  have  lot  plants  there.  Also  I  am  giving  them  live  food.

Any  other  precautions  I  have  to  take  !!

 Any  suggestion  most  welcome.

 Thanks  in  advance.

The  Badis  Badis  that  I  had  bred  twice  in  my  2  feet  tank.     You  need  to  have  'caves'  to  let  the  females  lay  eggs.   The  males  will  then  stand  guard  till  the  fries  hatch.   Thereafter,  no  parental  care.

But,  I  need  to  admit  -  I  did  not  do  anything  specific  to  induce  breeding.   I  sure  fed  them  (ONLY)  with  luscious  earthworms  every  day  (they  wouldn't  eat  anything  else).

Most  of  the  time,  I  did  not  notice  eggs  till  I  saw  visible  fries  swimming  around.

The  tank  had  4  males  and  1  female.   There  was  a  dominant  male  which  kept  others  in  submission  and  took  the  most   perfect  spot/  cave.   The  fries  seemed  to  be  safe  from  the  parents.

My  tank  was  bare-bottomed,  had  plenty  of  hiding  places  (rocks).   There  was  a  tall  flower  pot  (plastic)  which  grew  plenty  of  najas  indica  and  vals.     I  suppose  the  fries  survived  because  of  such  a  setup.

This  is  my  dario  dario  breeding  setup...
 Dimensions  -  18"*12"*9"
 Water  Parameters  -  PH  -  ard  6.5,  Temp  24-26,  Hardness  -  150-200ppm

 The  breeding  pair

Unlike  the  badis  badis  the  darios  are  substrate  spawners.  The  male  will  guard  his  eggs  but  may  eat  the  fries  when  the  eggs  hatch  so  the  best  bet  is  to  separate  the  male  or  the  eggs  well  before  they  hatch...
I  separate  the  male  and  female  and  condition  them  at  least  7-8  days  before  introducing  them  in  this  tank....  I  raise  the  temp  to  around  26  and  then  drop  it  to  23-24  to  induce  the  spawning  behavior  and  it  works  for  me....

The  male  was  guarding  his  spawning  site  when  the  pic  was  taken...  (was  not  able  to  click  pics  of  the  eggs  as  they  were  so  tiny  and  laid  under  the  driftwood)

Right  now  I  can't  see  the  female.  Is  hiding  somewhere  !!

Also  I  am  unable  see  the  egg.  Though  the  tank  is  full  of  plants  &  rocks  also,  But  I  can  see
 the  males.

If  there  was  some  eggs  how  long  it  takes  for  spawning  !!

What  are  your  tank  specs?  Water  parameters?
Whats  the  sex  ratio  that  you  have  in  the  tank?
 Whats  your  feeding  regime?
Have  you  seen  any  courtship  behaviour  displayed  by  the  male?

The  spawning  process  can  go  on  for  several  days  at  times  and  the  eggs  are  laid  all  over  the  spawning  area  chosen  by  the  male,  which  can  be  anywhere  such  as  on  open  substrate  or  under  a  rock...
The  eggs  hatch  within  2-3  days...
