 Hi,

I  was  trying  to  find  some  neutral  substrate  for  a  specific  project  and  I  came  across  an  interesting  product.  COCO  PEAT  and  its  available  in  India.

 http://www.biocarecocos.com/cocopeat.php

Has  anyone  tried  it  and  if  yes  what  are  the  results?

I  am  using  coco  peat  with  a  thin  layer  of  garden  soil  above  it  and  river  sand  at  the  top.  There  will  be  a  lot  of  it  floating  initially,  but  will  eventually  settle  down.  Problems  may  arise  when  a  plant  is  moved  out  and  its  roots  will  bring  a  lot  of  it  out.

I  also  use  like  Vipin  in  aquarium,  and  even  for  kitchen  gardenig.
But  we  bind  soluble  nutrients  to  this  like  macro,  micro,  and  humic  acid.
 It  works  very  well.
But  too  much  of  coco  peat  &/or  poor  bottom  filtration  may  develop  anaerobiosis  and  bad  odour.

I  uses  cocopeat  in  most  of  planted  tanks  as  thin  inner  layer.  Results  are  good.

Coco  peat  is  very  light  and  will  float  in  water  if  not  covered  with  other  substrates  like  river  sand/white  sand  etc...

What  a  coincidence.  I  was  planning  on  using  the  same  combination.  I  plan  on  using  a  35:35:30  ratio.
