 Hi,

can  anyone  tell  the  weight  (in  kg)  of  a  10liter  or  5  liter  contro  soil  pack.  Would  be  very  helpful.

also  the  weight  of  ADA  for  the  same  quantity,

1  liter  of  contro  weighs  __  Kg
1  liter  of  ADA  weighs  __  Kg.

 Thanks
 Asif

controsoil  weighs  around  11  kg[for  10  litre]  not  sure....  but  ADA  i  think  8kg(  for  9  litre).  But  wana  tell  u  onething  ADA  is  far  better  than  controsoil  in  terms  of  initial  plant  gripping  and  scape  stability.

 Even  I  wondered  the  same.
I  figured  out  that  it  so  happens  because  ADA  granules  are  porous  and  they  readily  absorb  water  and  sink.

 Any  counter-reasonings?

Hey  if  one  liter  of  ada  is  less  than  1  kg  then  how  will  it  sink  in  water  which  is  more  denser  than  it

why  would  a  small  needle  sink,  when  a  big  ship  which  has  much  more  mass  float..  ROFL
Volume  and  mass  are  two  different  things  guys..
example:   popcorn  are  made  from  corns  right..
so  the  mass  of  the  grain  before  and  the  mass  after  it  blows  up  as  popcorn  is  same..
But  the  volume  (  the  space  it  physically  occupies)  is  more  now..
Why..?  simply  because  now  its  porus..  and  filled  with  air  gaps.  hence  the  weightlessness..
so  similarly  when  the  porous  air  filled  substrate  is  immersed  in  water  the  air  is  displaced  by  water  so  now  the  grains  are  denser  than  water..

Smile  thats  simple  because  1  litre  of  soil  (both  ADA&  contro)  is  actually  the  amount  of  soil  that  can  fit  in  a  1  litre  measuring  cup  and  even  if  it  is  tightly  packed  there  is  still  bound  to  be  air  gaps  so  thats  not  the  actual  density  of  the  soil.  Actual  density  of  the  soil  is  more  and  thats  the  reason  it  sinks...

see  the  reason  for  it  then  maybe  the  porous  part  getting  filled  with  water.  But  nidhi   ROFL  when  a  metal  is  made  to  the  shape  of  a  ship,  the  whole  structures  density  become  less  than  water  as  some  of  it  is  replaced  by  airpockets,  thats  why  it  floats  which  is  the  basics  Cheering   of  boyancy  where  as  a  needle  is  still  solid  and  more  denser  even  if  it  is  tiny.....  But  this  was  nice  info  then  because  most  of  aquarium  shops  sell  in  kg  when  they  give  it  for  loose.  Now  we  can  have  a  proper  comparison  of  price.  One  other  question  is  there  a  expiry  for  these  when  kept  unused.

 Hi,

 Thanks  for  the  discussion  ,

Obviously  ADA  is  much  better  than  contro  as  per  growth  is  concerned  etc  etc  and  contro  also  has  +  points,  (these  have  been  discussed  in  old  topics  i  guess).
here  i  just  wanted  the  weights  since  as  jabba  mentioned  when  we  buy  it  loose  the  LFS  guys  weighs  in  kg  (cause  there  are  no  other  options  Smile  also)  .

could  be  helpful  for  many  who  buys  loose  soil.

Now  ,  still  its  not  clear  for  me  i  bought  a  10  liter  bag  of  contro  .

@  josyjames  :  shelly  did  you  mean  9  liter  bag  of  contro  weighs  11  kg  ,  but  i  think  my  bag  of  contro  says  10  liter  ,  that  means  10  liter  weighs  11  kg,  is  it?  i  will  check  again  and  conform  in  evening.
as  per  my  knowledge  there  is  a  9liter  bag  of  ADA,  and  10  liter  bag  of  contro  available  in  market.

still  anyone  with  an  exact  measurement  will  be  helpful  for  all  .wish  i  had  weighed  my  bag  of  ADA  and  contro  before  opening  .  Sad

If  anyone  currently  has  an  unopened  bag  pls  let  us  know  the  EXACT  weight  in  kg  for  the  same(not  just  a  guess  or  approx)  .

1  liter  of  contro  weighs  __  Kg
1  liter  of  ADA  weighs  __  Kg.

 Thanks  All
 Asif

Another  thing,  IMO,  is  that  ADA  soil  looks  natural  where  are  contro  looks  very  artificial!
