Dear Friends,
Been in marine for some time and Just decided to upgrade my setup to about a 375+ gallon setup... and thought will get to share with you the build details from start ...
and here we go...
the Tank will be a 8' X 2'9"(width) X 2'3" Depth and will be ultra clear glass on front and two sides and all glasses will be 12mm tempered. Glass has been ordered and should arrive tomorow.
The sump will be a 4'x2'x1'6" sump will additonal tank of 2x2x1.5 as refuge and probably get in mangroves to grow in that area.
the skimmer is a SRO5000 EXT External one with 5000 Bubble blaster pump and is rated for about 500 gallon tank...
Return pump : 12500 Water Blaster pump
Internal flows : 4 Nos of MP40wES and 1XTunze 6105
SRO Phosban reactor using BRS GFO
DIY Calcium Reactor
DIY LED lights about 192 LEDS on 8 panels of 24 in Each panel with seperate dimming for whites and R-Blues separately. Already have 5 panels done - just need to do 3 more...
DIY Chiller - 1.5 ton capacity Temp Maker imported from Bangkok as done in Chingchai's tank on ReefCental.
All the rockwork from my existing 5' tank will go into this and slowly add more rock in due course to get the entire scaping complete... currently growing about 40 differnt varieties of SPS in frags mode they are just set and starting to take off.... will enclose a list shortly...
Will attach pictures of my existing setup and new setup shortly... |

Thats great....Mangroves need a lot of bioload (i.e Phosphates and nitrates) and a DSB about 8 inches.
Mine just died because of low nutrinets |

Planning to have a heavy bio load with many tangs and dwarf angels in the list of fishes :)
Where did you source your mangroves from ??
I guess the red ones dont do well you need the green ones for better survival |

location chembur???
i have a feeling we have met
so whats the stocking list?
having such a long tank, have you considered a bournman flush or a CSD? just throwing the idea in the table as 4 MP40 would be not too effective towards the center of the tank
Also, regarding the mangrove, is a neat idea for sure. but it wont do wonders for nutrient removal by itself
but i would love to have that as a seperate display beside the tank itself |

Location chennai.
Not looking at surge devices as I am looking to align the 40s on the back wall To get more flow but the accessibility is a problem on the back as well as more pressure on the front glass.
If I am setting on the side glasses for more sideways flow I might disturb the viewing area and those glasses are ultra clear
The mangroves will be in the terrace
Actually the tank alone will be in the Tv room and the overflow and return from the sump will be taken via the window to the rear terrace area where there will be a small room built to accommodate all the equipments
Doing this o eliminate any overflows or water leaks in the main display room as the flooring is Wooden. Already I have totally damaged the wooden flooring in my existing setup. |

the vortechs are only 3-4 inches on wet side.
why do you say it will ruin the viewing area is installed sideways?
another option you could think of is a closed loop. a bit old school but can be helpfull
i suggested surge device as it is the best form of water movement and far exceeds all the wave makers and streams n vortechs.
i ran a very nice 125 gal with a 20 gal surge alone looks a bit weird if left visible.
but you can hide it in the external room and just run the piping in the display witha V split or a T split and get awesome flow
another thought i felt was the glass. is it thick enough to handle a 375 gall?
maybe am just more paranoid for safety got my tank made with 15mm even at 22" height |

It time for the reefers to come and show what they have. Too much in the hiding :)
Well the wires on the vortech disturbs the view as it is currently on my five footer
Just started the research on the surge and if you can give a layout of how you did it can think of following that or making it slightly larger. I have a 2000 Sqft terrace that I can use for any reef activity so no shortage of space.
Will regard to the thickness it is tempered. So not an issue. The other thing was 19mm regular but that glass will be difficult to handle and also for the vortech to be placed. Plus a couple of my sized tanks on reef central using glass were done with same thickness and the bottom was 15mm regular not tempered.
Have euro bracing at top in a different design that should hold it. For my height it worked out about 15mm with a safety factor of 4. That was similar to a 12 mm tempered one so went with that. |

Well, I went with terribly simple manner as my tank was in a separate room and I could afford it loOk not so neat
Basically, the return from the sump feeds to a container placed at a higher level than the tank.
Here is a link with something very simple.
web.archive.org/web/20050711221839/http://www.planet-reef.com/surge1.htm
breedersregistry.org/Reprints/MFM/v11_aug96/simple_surge.htm
Go over those above webpages and try something simple first.
I can help if you get stuck somewhere.
Best thing is, if you realise is not what you wanted, you can always go back to vortechs. The money spent would be just 100INR |

| U can go for a couple of MP60's instead of four MP40's. And for the flow at the bottom u ca go for tunze, which will be shadowed by u r rock work and you will not have any dead spots |
