My betta 5-gallon tank LINK
Ok, setting up my new nano aquarium.
Here are the specifics -
5 gallon tank(planted) - 8.5 inch x 9 x 15, 2-3 inch aqua-clay + sand, fertilizer - ADA, homemade yeast CO2, Boyu thermometer, heater(Risheng -brand) -75 watt(couldn't get lower than this).
Plants - Rotala(red, green),Amazon, some plants I cant figure out.
PLEASE SUGGEST ME - 1) about the filter I need to use? I can't use a sponge filter as it has to be connected to an O2 bubbler which makes that annoying humming noise. Plus this will be a home for a betta soon, so it cant be a power filter. What gallon/hr capacity?
2)What light I need to use, wattage? Are chinese-made led table lamps good for growing plants?
I need help QUICK!! |

Bettas don't like water movement. Better keep a ordinary sponge filter in a corner. Or a hob filter will be good.
And for plants you don't need a heater. Just maintain 26 to 28 degree temp and not more than that. |

And you dont need co2 for the plants you have selected. Just get decent light. Id say 15w is more than enough for a betta tank of that size. The amazon will most likely outgrow your tank so i suggest you skip on that.
Chinese made "table lamps" are no good for plants. Bt the chinese 1w leds (high output ones) are good. Bt if you can fid in a cfl, it would be best.
If you gt a small power filter but point it directly on the glass the flow will reduce drastically and you wont have to bear the hum of the air pump. |

#Currently have a CFL(11 watt), I was thinking of a PLL..is that good for a nano or too elaborate?I don't want any extra heat.
#And the nights are too cold in my city. drops to 21 degrees(about 3-4 degrees),so wouldn't the heater be worth it?
#Sponge filter sounds good but I dont want it cramping up anymore space. I will be probably be going for a hob/pf..the least powerful I can find. |

Thankyou for replying! Sponges are a bit of a bummer when it comes to such a restricted space..hob/pf it is(the smallest I can find). I cant on purpose maintain the temp at 26-28 degrees right now due to the monsoons(24 degrees here daytime, night-time - 21 degrees) |

This is the final set up for now...I do want something better than a netlon covering for a canopy..
Tada! Here is Sobu-San(Betta) or as I call him - Sobu. He was very shy the first day but 1 day later, He's all over the tank!
[img] [/img]
He's already made a bubble nest on day 2! Now, should I be getting a female or not...that is the question...any answer?????

Kindly comment:) |

| If you want to breed them only then go for a female or it a big NO. They don't stay together. They will kill each other. |

Just now saw the pictures. Its a happy veiltail betta. If he feels lonely then show him a mirror every day morning for half an hour. That will keep him going.
Thanks dada. |

+1 for mirror.
It will keep him active and give him that exercise.
Vary the diet from Betta pellets to flakes to blood worms to the occassional mosqitoes/larvae. |
