 hello  all

can  any  of  u  guys  please  help  me  on  this  diy  plant  fert
i  am  currently  doing  r&d  on  the  web  and  have  found  this  topic  on  ehow  web  site

 Homemade  Fertilizing  Powders
A  powder-based  homemade  aquarium  plant  fertilizer  can  be  made  using  a  3:3:2:1  ratio  of  Epsom  salt,  potassium  sulfate  and  salt  peter.  The  plant  fertilizer  should  be  added  to  the  aquarium  in  small  amounts.  One  teaspoon  per  10  gallons  of  water  is  an  ideal  initial  dose.  During  water  changes,  equally  small  amounts  of  the  fertilizer  can  be  added  to  replenish  nutrient  and  mineral  levels  in  the  water.

 Trace  Minerals
Trace  minerals,  including  iron  and  zinc,  can  help  aquarium  plants  thrive.  Specialized  aquarium  gravel  is  available  to  provide  these  essential  plant  nutrients,  but  some  advanced  aquarists  choose  to  use  iron-rich  (red)  clay  instead.  Clay  should  be  boiled  prior  to  use  to  help  eliminate  unwanted  organisms.  It  can  then  be  placed  under  the  aquarium  gravel  to  enhance  the  water  chemistry.

please  help  any  1  Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up

 Hi  sergiomiranda,
Last  week,  I  rolled  a  macro  solution  after  doing  lot  of  calculations..
Below  is  the  sniped  picture  from  the  calculation  I  did  on   'theaquatools'  website  calculator.  And  started  dosing  this  two  days  back,  30ml  per  day..  Plants  started  to  pearl  within  20  min  of  dosing  this  along  with  a  5ml  dosing  of  CSM-B.  the  CSM-B  was  also  made  in  to  a  solution  with  15gm  mixed  in  500ml  of  water..
These  dosage  was  calculated  for  low  to  medium  tech  aquarium..  and  is  still  on  higher  side.  So  thinking  of  dosing  on  alternate  days.
The  plan  is..  Monday,  Wednesday  and  Friday  will  be  macros.  And  Tuesday,  Thursday  and  Saturday  will  be  micros..
And,  this  is  my  first  attempt  at  dosing  ferts..  so  there  might  be  some  mismatch  which  I  hope  the  experienced  folks  will  correct  me.

A  simple  visit  to  Macro  Micro  fertilizer  section  on  IAH  will  give  you  more  than  required  information.

The  article  you  refer  doesn't  contain  enough  conclusive  details..  And  what  I  have  done  (  and  most  of  us  do)  is  similar  to  that,  just  go  through  the  tables  in  the  image  for  the  chemicals  I  have  used..  and  at  the  bottom  of  the  image  you  can  see  how  much  of  fertilizer  is  being  added  on  my  one  dosage  v/s  the  amount  maximum  to  aim  for  in  a  week  in  case  of  High  co2  and  high  lighting  tanks..
But  I  think  this  will  work  better  for  you..

Actually,  I  got  these  chemicals  from  a  IAH  friend  who  sell  it  as  a  package,  you  must  have  come  across  his  posts  on  selling  them..  But  you  can  buy  these  in  shops  selling  lab  supplies..

@   sergiomiranda,  this  is  the  chemicals  I  have  used..  and  the  values.
