 Hi  All,

       Few  quick  questions...

Is  outdoor  pond  feasible  to  have  in  Chennai?
                *  Given  the  outside  temperature  that  crosses  40+  in  the  month  of  May.
                *  Will  planting  trees  around  or  covering  the  top  of  the  pond  with  roof  will  reduce  the  heat  impact?
                *  will  elevated  pond  suite  outdoor  garden?
                *  I  would  love  to  have  Koi..in  Pond  garden  can  it  withstand  the  temperature?

 Regards,
 Senthil  S.

Our  admin  Beta  has  an  outdoor  pond  too.  Not  exposed  to  direct  sunlight  and  with  a  decent  water  flow.

 Green  cover  is  preferable.

senthil.  keep  your  pond  as  deep  as  possible  -  4-5  feet  esp  if  there  is  no  green  coer  on  the  top.  else  the  fish  will  suffer  in  the  summer.  Koi  are  lovely  fish  but  generate  a  lot  of  waste.  Ensure  you  have  good  filters.  why  dont  you  think  of  less  colourful  native  cyprinids?

That's  great  information.  I  was  wondering  whether  I  should  do  a  outdoor  pond  setup  for  my  fancy  guppies,  considering  the  way  they  expand  in  numbers  :-)

I  am  not  too  sure,  whether  they  will  survive  in  summer  but  I  guess,  as  long  as  there  is  no  direct  sunlight  which  increases  water  temp  rapidly,  any  fish  should  do  well....

 Hi  Senthil....

I  live  in  Mangalore  and  have  an  Arowana  pond  which  has  kois  and  lots  of  natives.

As  Pradeep  suggested  the  depth  plays  a  key  role  here.  Due  to  your  high  temp  this  is  vital.
Provide  shade  and  avoid  as  much  sunlight  as  possible.

For  filteration...  A  bog  filter  will  combat  the  most  feared  algae  issue  quite  efficiently  (  if  u  want  more  info  on  this  lemme  know).  Keep  the  turnover  rate  at  5x  min  per  hour.

If  you  would  like  to  know  more  about  the  pond  I  built  check  this  link...

Here  is  a  video  link...  http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AyPBUIn4TiU&feature=plcp

This  will  give  you  an  idea  on  the  water  clarity...

 Cheers,
