 hi

how  do  i  test  the  ammonia  levels???  well  the  chain  is  nh3-->  no2-->no3

earlier  i  had  a  trace  of  no2  in  water...kept  prawns  for  few  days  and  also  mollys  and  also  damsel  for  a  few  days  now...there  is  an  increase  in  no2...which  indicates  the  cycling  is  in  process.
besides  the  above  i  have  added  the  azoo  bacteria  and  psb  which  helps  in  faster  growth  of  bacteria...

i  do  not  claim  that  i  may  be  right  ...but  my  damsels  are  doing  v  fine...they  are  hogging  hard

 Hi  Hitster,

Boiling  helps  to  get  the  prawn  free  from  the  bad  bacteria  ...  and  also  helps  faster  decomposition...  Boiled  stuff  decomposes  faster  and  the  fact  that  it  decomposes  means  the  bacteria  is  on  the  job.

All  fishless  cycling  recommendations  which  I  have  read  specify  raw  shrimps  or  prawns.  Please  see  http://www.aquariumadvice.com/article_view.php?faq=2&fldAuto=15  where  the  author  mentions  "find  some  RAW  SHRIMP,  make  sure  its  raw  and  as  unprocessed  as  possible.  You  don't  want  precooked  or  seasoned  shrimp."

Can  you  let  me  know  any  site  where  they  recommend  boiled  prawns  ?

thanks,  even  what  i  said  is  correct  because  my  prawns  decomposed  fast  and  vanished  and  ever  since  the  no2  is  quite  high.
