Very  fussy  eater,  requires  live  food  especially  the  new  wild-caughts.

But  you're  the  Beer  worm  culture  man  &  you  might  have  some  more  cultures  so  good.   Thumb Up

Initially  they  will  be  finicky.  You  can  change  them  over  to  finely  chopped  shrimp.  They  grow  really  fast  on  shrimp.

All  the  best.  Provide  good  hiding  spots  cause  males  can  be  aggressive  to  each  other.

I  guess  your  grindal  worms  and  beer  worms  are  enough  for  feeding  them.
I  feed  all  my  3  kinds  of  Badis  sp  the  same.  Smile

 Thanks  Tabby.
Yeah!  Its  my  first  Native.  And  I  am  really  excited.  Yes  I  have  some  worm  cultures.:)

Thanks  Marc.  I  will  try  shrimps  too.  Very Happy
They  are  less  than  one  inch  now.  Should  I  wait  till  they  grow  a  little  bigger?

 Thanks  Cheetesh.
They  doesn't  seem  to  be  very  interested  in  white  worms  or  grindals.  But  I  saw  them  pecking  on  microfex  (  Romyfex)

How  big  are  your  Badis?  Do  they  always  hide?

 Thanks  Ramdas  :D

These  Badis  are  Indian  bettas.  Seems  like  I  got  two  males.  Clapping

@deepak:  Mine  are  happy  with  grindal  worms.
They  don't  hide  at  all,  they  are  always  moving  around  in  the  tank...
Wait  for  your  Badis  to  flare  at  each  other...  You  will  love  them..  Smile

PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 2013 12:10 pm Post subject: Re: Badis Badis. Reply with quote

 My  experience:

 1)  Extremely  slow  (not  exactly  shy)  to  the  extent  that  they  come  off  as  dumb  sometimes.   More  so  on  this  in  further  points.

 2)  Need  plenty  of  hiding  places  so  that  the  males  can  be  at  rest  with  each  other.   Plenty  of  pots,  rocks  and  plants  will  put  them  at  ease.

My  badis  come  to  the  front  of  the  tank  during  the  feeding  time  (my  feeding  times  are  mostly  fixed).   Otherwise  its  hard  to  see  them.   I  use  endlers  as  tethering  fishes.   But  this  has  a  problem.

 3)  Will  eat  only  live  food.   So  a  constant  supply  is  a  must.   I  use  earthworms,  which  they  like  immensely.   (White  worms  did  not  work.)

 4)  I  say  they're  dumb,  because  they  sometimes  don't  seem  to  recognize  a  wriggling,  sizable  worm  on  the  floor  of  the  tank.   They  catch  the  worm  only  when  it  is  floating  or  sinking  in  the  water.

 5)  Their  slow  pace  makes  them  less  competitive  when  getting  the  food.  Many  a  times,  they'll  lose  the  worms  to  the  endlers.

 6)  They're  timid  as  well,  in  the  sense  that  I  have  seen  endlers  chasing  the  badis  to  get  the  worms  out  of  their  mouth  (and  they  mostly  succeed,  because  the  badis  spit  out  a  mouthful  of  a  worm,  and  they're  immediately  picked  by  the  endlers).

So  lessons:   1)  Keep  badis  in  a  species-only  tank.   Don't  have  any  other  fish  that  moves  faster  than  them.  2)  Always  keep  a  stock  of  good  live  food  3)  Have  plenty  of  hiding  places.  4)  Don't  put  the  tank  under  bright  light.   They  prefer  dark  corners.

But,  they  are  beautiful  fishes  to  keep.   My  badis  bred  in  my  tank.   There  are  4-5  fries  which  are  now  big  enough  to  be  seen  easily.   Not  sure  what  they  eat  though  :O
