Dude  the  mix  of  potting  soil  and  vermi  compost  together  can  be  a  max  of  1  inch  thick  then  you  need  to  put  atleast  3  inch  layer  of  inert  sand  like  river  sand  to  cover  it  .....
Don't  take  Vermi  compost  lightly.....  I  did  the  biggest  ever  dumb  thing  once...
Once  I  tried  to  grow  staurogyne  repens,  Hairgrass  etc  on  a  thick  layer  of  vermi  compost  alone  on  a  emersed  growth  set  up.
What  I  thought  is  there  is  no  standing  water  so  no  algae  bloom.
I  had  kept  this  setup  in  my  room  only.  My  eyes  where  burning  in  that  night  and  never  thought  that  this  will  be  the  problem.  Next  day  morning  there  was  no  problem  on  any  of  the  plants  except  for  the  fact  that  they  where  fried!!!!  in  the  heat  produced  by  vermi  compost.
When  this  to  my  dad  He  literally  was  about  to  hit  me(He  is  a  farmer  so  you  can  understand  his  reaction).....  As  per  him  they  use  vermi  compost  at  a  ratio  of  1:10  when  they  plant  rubber  plants....  Also  they  make  sure  that  there  is  lot  of  water(when  it  comes  to  planting  on  ground,  water  means  running  water  as  the  water  will  be  absorbed  by  the  surrounding  area)......

ohh...i  have  2  inch  layer  of  soil+vermicompost  and  1inch  of  river  sand....
ratio  is  5-6  parts  of  soil  and  less  than  1  part  of  vermipost....my  plants  and  fishes  are  doing  fine....
i  know  vermicompost  is  very  strong  (we  use  it  in  our  farms  all  the  time)  thats  y  i  used  less  and  only  kept  plants  for  a  monthmy  cobomba,  sword,  giant  and  dwraf  sag  are  growing  good...

+1  Jabba...  I  think  the  vermi-compost  is  the  culprit  here.
Only  a  few  spoons  of  vermi-compost  are  added  at  the  bottom  most  part  of  the  tank.  It  is  just  like  they  add  those  ADA  additives  at  the  bottom...  a  spoon  here  &  a  spoon  there.

oh  lovely  its  getting  cleaned?  any  guesse  how?

 See  the  picture  below

here  the  spike  has  take  its  course.  So  I  let  it  remain  as  it  is  for  the  whole  time,  say  about  30  hrs.  Slowly  the  small  sponge  filter  has  done  its  job  +  bacteria  started  working

Now  see  the  result  of  todays  morning

You  need  to  wait  for  the  water  to  take  back  its  position.

@Percy  yes  its  getting  clearer....I  added  filter  pad  as  Pio  said....and  clean  it  twice  a  day.....with  25-30%  water  changes....
See  how  milky  cloudy  is  your  tank  mine  was  the  same  but  lot  worse....also  on  filter  pad  it  was  bit  brownish  stuff  rather  than  green...

see  images  i  have  attached  compare  day  1  and  today  morning  image....

 its  clearing  up   Dancing

Because  of  that  fast  pump's  spraying  water,  your  bacteria  cycle  is  getting  disturbed.  Put  a  sponge  filter,  and  things  will  start  working  faster.  Thumb Up

if  you  are  indeed  having  a  bacterial  bloom  then  getting  a  mature  sponge  or  gravel  from  someone  elses  tank  will  help  more  than  a  new  sponge.  Best  option  is  to  do  more  wcs  and  wait  it  out.

Whatever  you  do  dont  shut  down  your  existing  powerhead  filter.  High  flow  has  no  negative  impact  on  bacterial  population.

 Regards,
 Venkat
