I'm restarting my tank after close to 1.5 years of being idle. I've decided to have Mbuna's this time and needed some help:
Filtration: JBL e900 Canister
Substrate: Want to use river sand. Pardon the noob question, is it the same sand they use for construction ?
Rocks: I picked up a few small rocks (6-8 ) from Kaveri river and I can make two cave like formations with them. Will it suffice as long as they are juveniles ? I have a porous rock, will it be ok to add it into the tank ?
I also plan to run an air pump till the tank sets in completely.
I went to the LFS today and found out he mainly has Pseudotropheus socolofi (Blue with black linings on fins),Pseudotropheus socolofi (Albino) and Peacocks along with a few other fish. I'm planning to start off with these since they aren't very aggressive.
For the nitrogen cycling, how many of the above fishes should I get. The fish size is between 1-1.5" tops, the peacocks are slightly bigger. I'm very tempted to start with 6 in total (2 of each species) will it be too much for a new tank or can I get away with frequent water changes (daily 10-15%)
For feeding, is Hikari Cichlid Excel a better choice compared to Hikari Cichlid staple ?
