A  DIY  Trap  for  fry  collection

I  do  not  remember  the  site  but  I  did  see  it  somewhere  (I  would  have  loved  to  mention  the  site  otherwise),  a  small  DIY  trick  to  collect  the  fry  out  of  a  tank.  I  prepared  one  and  used  it  to  collect  my  Kribensis  fry  out  of  a  community  tank  and  to  shift  them  to  a  different  tank  a  few  months  back.
It  is  cutting  a  small  transparent  bottle  to  cut  from  a  place  where  its  tapered  portion  comes  to  an  end  and  fix  the  neck  portion  in  the  bottle  in  reversed  direction  (Snaps  will  explain).
It  is  kept  in  water  in  the  aquarium  with  some  food  as  bate  in  the  bottle.  Fry  comes  in  sensing  the  food  and  then  do  not  find  the  way  out.  And  one  is  able  to  pick  them  up  and  shift  them  to  the  desired  place.
This  was  interesting,  but  today  it  was  astonishing  for  me  when  I  found  the  trick  can  be  used  to  trap  the  Mosquito  larvae.  It  had  been  a  great  task  otherwise.  I  used  it  twice  and  collected  a  good  number  of  them  to  feed  my  fish  without  any  trouble  and  dirt  to  deal  with.  I  kept  this  small  bottle  in  a  bucket  outside  my  house  which  had  plenty  of  mosquito  larvae,  and  within  an  hour  I  collected  a  bottle  full  of  these  larvae  to  just  pick  them  up  and  open  it  in  my  Aquarium.

 Good  idea...  Thumb Up

Try  to  use  a  bottle  where  the  mouth  of  the  bottle  is  small  in  diameter.  This  would  make  sure  that  the  fishes  would  find  difficult  to  find  the  way  out  of  the  bottle.  If  the  mouth  is  big,  the  fishes  could  find  way  after  some  time.

 Yes  josyjames,
I  used  a  rubberband  as  a  cross  on  the  bottle  mouth  to  prevent  the  big  fish  entering  in  the  bottle.  When  I  was  collecting  Kribensis  fry  once  the  male  entered  in  the  bottle  and  I  have  to  make  this  arrangement  in  successive  attempts.  Is  it  not  easier  as  compared  to  having  many  bottles?

I  could  not  understand  your  suggestion.  Are  you  saying  about  the  bottle?

I've  made  this  for  my  guppies,  they're  perfect  for  livebearers  but  I  too  agree,  the  bottle  has  to  be  bigger  or  the  fish  will  feel  confined  and  might  stress  out.  I  used  a  two  liter  bottle  for  the  guppies.
