 hello  all

just  started  working  on  a  new  project  called  the  double  barrel  external  filter  system

i  have  fixed  the  submersible  pump  on  the  cap  and  the  in  let  is  also  on  the  cap
but  at  the  bottom  i  have  fixed  a  1''  di  pipe  for  the  water  transfer  from  one  canister  to  another

tomorrow  will  do  the  test  of  the  filter  till  then  the  glue  will  have  dried  up.

That's  typically  how  I'd  imagined  it  to  be.  Still  don't  understand  the  need  for  'double  barrel'.  All  you  have  to  do  is  have  a  single  longer  tube  or  a  wider  one.
Keep  an  eye  out  for  flow  rate  though.
I'm  actually  able  to  visualize  another  design  with  the  'double  barrel'  that  might  keep  decent  flow  rate.  I'll  probably  post  a  diagram  later.

 1.  The  entryof  water  should  be  from  the  bottom.  This  filter  must  contain  sponges  and  active  carbon  on  the  lowest  end
 2.  water  will  rise  to  the  top  of  the  filter
 3.  Let  the  first  canister  fill  up  till  the  brim  and  drop  out  fro  top.
 4.  the  transer  of  water  from  1st  canister  into  the  2nd  canister  should  be  from  top  end
 5.  let  it  drop  down  slowly.
 6.  this  canister  muct  have  a  small  pump  on  the  cap  below  it  should  be  floss,  below  it  cermic  rings.

if  you  connect  both  the  canister  on  lower  end  filteration  will  be  only  40%

Sergio,  this  is  a  really  impressive  and  path  breaking  project.  and  such  a  dynamic  name  as  well  -  double  barrel.  I  think  this  has  the  potential  to  be  the  next  2217.

my  23  rupees  -  first  and  foremost  trademark  the  name.  You  don't  want  some  big  company  stealing  the  name  and  tech.

Secondly  i  think  you  will  have  to  rope  in  Bombay's  foremost  D.I.Y  experimenter  -  Sri  Garothmaan  to  pull  this  off.

What  are  you  doing  with  2  pumps?  Does  the  pump  in  the  main  tank  pump  water  to  the  filter?  If  that's  your  design,  then  you'll  have  some  serious  issues  with  disparity  in  water  flow.  Firstly,  you  risk  flooding  your  room.  Then  there  is  the  possibility  of  burning  out  one  of  the  pumps.

 rethink  that.

Always  remember  the  basics  of  mechanics:  The  more  the  parts  (moving  parts  to  be  precise),  the  more  the  chances  of  failure.  Always  keep  your  design  as  simple  as  possible.  Not  as  simple  as  returning  water  using  'air  power'  though  (  Drinking  Cheers  Sid!)

@sid:  you're  at  it  again...   ROFL  ...  You're  gonna  get  the  two  of  us  expelled  from  the  forum.  Narrow  miss  last  time  due  to  forgiveness...  remember?

You  haven't  done  research  on  this...

There  are  some  proper  plumbing  materials  out  there  for  such  projects,  then  why  compromise  on  quality  of  the  work,  it  just  takes  a  little  more  travelling  to  find  the  right  dealer  selling  them.

The  joint  you  have  used  for  both  barrels  seem  to  be  quite  weak  and  unnecessary  speed  breaker  for  the  flow...  For  such  joints  there  are  proper  bulkheads  available  with  watchers  to  prevent  leaks.

1  -  what  adhessive  did  you  use  for  joining  PVCs  together?
2  -  How  do  you  plan  to  seal  not  one  but  2  lids?  Lids  are  very  tricky  and  have  to  hold  great  deal  of  pressure,  you  need  good  quality  screw  caps  of  CPVC  with  gaskets,  other  wise  this  project  isnt  viable.

I  really  recommend  you  go  see  how  different  canisters  work,  then  sought  out  some  serious  plans  on  it..
