 Planning  to  buy  a  new  w=1  ft  h=  1.5  ft  l=  3  ft  tank
The  tanks  at  my  LFS  have  a  greenish  tint  (not  clear  glass)  and  hence  i  am  planning  to  get  it  made.

Can  you  guys  please  suggest  the  following  things?
 1)  Glass  material
 2)  Glass  thickness

Any  thing  other  that  i  will  have  to  consider  ?

A  approximate  rates  will  help  me  get  a  good  bargain.

All  leading  brands  of  glass  manufacturers  make  'extra  clear  glass'.  They  may  have  different  names  for  it.  Saint  gobain  calls  it  'diamant'.  One  other  company  calls  it  'sapphire  glass'.  But  if  you  mention  'extra  clear  glass',  the  shopkeeper  will  know.  Extra  clear  glass  is  about  50%  more  expensive  than  normal  float  glass.

for  the  dimension  you've  specified,  8mm  thickness  should  be  sufficient.  But  you  can  make  the  tank  with  thicker  glass  if  you  want.  In  fact  if  you  use  thicker  glass,  let's  say  12mm,  you  will  not  need  support  braces.  For  8mm,  it  would  be  safe  to  have  support  braces.

You  will  need  about  2  tubes  of  silicone  sealant  for  the  job.  To  get  a  clean  finish  at  the  seams,  use  masking  tape  to  create  the  borders.

Tank  build  Check  out  this  thread  for  some  reference.  We  built  2  tanks  with  extra  clear  glass.  It  was  not  the  perfect  build,  but  I  guess  you  can  take  some  pointers.

 good  luck!   Thumb Up

That  doesn't  look  like  clear  glass  to  me!  Sad
and  that  filter  is  positioned  wrongly.  You  have  to  position  it  upright  &  possibly  attach  the  filter  to  the  side/back  glass  with  the  help  of  vacuum  pads  that  would  be  on  the  filter.

Yes,  its  not  clear  glass..  its  my  existing  tank.
The  filter  is  deliberately  positioned  horizontal,  since  my  tank  is  not  huge,  and  vertical  positioning  creates  a  lot  of  water  movement  (like  a  whirlpool).

I  have  been  running  this  filter  since  4  month  now,  without  any  problem.
Also  since  my  tank  is  bare  bottom,  this  position  of  filter  easily  picks  up  fish  poo,  and  gives  a  neat  look  to  my  aquarium  as  opposed  to  higher  hanging  vertical  filter  position!

Experts,  Please  advice  if  nothing  is  wrong  with  keeping  filter  in  horizontal  position  at  bottom  of  my  tank.

 Libero..
Internal  filters  like  yours  can  be  placed  in  any  kind  of  position..  especially  when  its  a  bare  bottom  tank.

Yes,  I  agree  that  they  will  function  well  in  any  position.  Was  just  wondering  about  water  flow.  This  kind  of  positioning  would  create  a  lot  of  turbulence  as  opposed  to  the  conventional  position  which  creates  a  directional  flow.
IMO  you  could  use  the  spray  bar  attachment  to  reduce  the  force.  Most  internal  filters  today  come  with  the  optional  spray  bar.

Hi  Libero  buddy,  how  are  you?  long  time,  no  see.  Good  to  have  you  back  here.  Anyway  love  your  tank.  Makes  me  nostalgic.  Is  that  assmodius  (the  goldfish)  in  the  tank?  he  seems  happy  and  healthy.

 regards

 Sid.
