 Hello

I  would  like  to  contact  your  members  searching  informations  about  aquaristic  in  India...  And  pray  you  to  forgive  my  poor  english    Sad

My  husband  may  be  called  to  work  at  Bangalore  next  year  (january  2007)  for  3  years  at  least,  and  I  follow  him    Wave    soI  wonder  if  this  means  stopping  my  hobby.  (I  stop  my  job,  that  seems  enough    Sad  )

I'm  very  glad  to  find  this  forum,  which  show  me  that  my  hobby  is  quite  dynamic  in  your  country.  I've  got  many  questions  if  someone  can  help  me  :
 -  can  I  take  my  own  fishes  (discus  and  zebra  plecos  L46    Sad  almost  zebra  plecos)  or  is  it  quite  impossible  (I  know  that  sounds  naive,  and  I  think  I  can't,  but  I've  no  experience  on  this,  maybe  is  ther  one  hope,  even  little,  ...  )
 -  what  about  shops  in  Bangalore  (loricaridae  and/or  discus)  ?

 Thanks  for  your  answers    Cheer

 Hi  Virginie,

Welcome  to  IAH!    Chuckle  I  do  not  think  you  will  need  to  stop  your  hobby  if  you  are  coming  to  Bangalore.  Most  of  the  IAH  members  are  from  Bangalore  itself.  In  fact  the  Aquatika  2006  is  being  held  in  Bangalore  on  the  25th  of  June.  So  even  if  you  quit  your  job  you  may  not  have  to  quit  your  hobby.

 Hi  Sandeep!

I  think  you  can  see  the  plecos  on  her  homepage.  I  have  put  the  link  on  the  other  forum  topic  "PLANTED  TANK  WITH  DISCUS".  Just  check  it  out.

Great,  you  may  tell  me  if  it  may  be  done  ?
For  my  discus,  I  ac  sell  them,  almost  I  like  them  very  much.  but  sell  my  zebra    Sad  ...  It  will  be  easy,  but  I  needed  two  years  to  find  and  pay  them  (I've  got  one  adult  now  and  8  youngs  of  1,5  inches),  and  it's  hard  to  think  to  let  them  go...

 Hello  Virgenie,

 Welcome  to  Bangalore.

You  need  not  leave  your  L46  behind.  Something  can  sure  be  worked  out  as  the  time  approaches.

As  for  Discus  you  can  get  good  ones  in  Bangalore.

The  city  may  be  called  Bengaluru  by  the  time  you  get  here  due  to  a  name  change.

Banglore  is  one  of  the  few  cities  in  India  the  only  city  in  fact  with  a  well  functioning  hobbyist  club  called  the  Aquarists  Society  of  Karnataka.  You'll  get  all  the  help  you  need  from  the  members  here.

I  will  be  "super  glad"  if  I  can  bring  my  group  of  zebras.  Most  are  young,  and  be  mature  next  year  only,  so  that  come  in  India  make  me  stop  my  repro  project,  which  was  beginning  for  2  years  now    Sad  (I  fisrt  had  an  adult  group  of  4  specimens,  but  3  died  14  months  after  arriving,  and  I  needed  6  month  to  find  some  again  (from  Swiss  and  Belgium)

The  L46  are  not  algae  eater,  they  eat  meat  and  shrimps  when  adults.  Only  juveniles  need  vegetable  apport,  in  little  part.  I  give  them  pleco  pellets,  "viformo"  by  Sera.  Their  breeders  (in  Swiss  and  in  Belgium)  give  them  this  food  from  firts  weeks  till  7/8  months,  and  after,  little  pieces  of  bloodworms  etc...  like  for  discus.
The  most  difference  with  discus  is  the  oxygen  needs  :  zebra  and  other  xingu  loricaridae  live  in  courant  (english  word  ?)  water,  and  in  tank,  strong  move  (what's  the  correct  word  ?)  seems  to  be  a  key  for  keeping  and  breeding  them.

In  my  92  gallions,  are  there  now  5  zebras  (1  adult  and  4  youngs  above  2  inches),  a  L48  (scobiancistrus  pariolispos)  2  inches  long  (adulte  :  10/12  inches),  and  a  pair  of  discus,  and  that's  all.  Though  there  is  a  315  gal/hour  pump,  my  2  discus  seem  to  live  correctly.
The  Belgium  breeder  has  kept  his  repro  group  with  discus  for  many  years  before  having  a  special  tank  only  for  zebras,  but  the  communautary  (english  word  ?)  tank  was  equiped  with  "oxydator"  (licogene  catalysed  and  spread  in  water).

Are  there  loricarida  breeders  in  India  ?
