Sergio,  based  on  the  whatsapp  discussion,  this  filter  will  not  serve  the  purpose  for  which  you  are  making  it,  i.e.  so  that  you  do  not  have  to  do  a  WC  for  a  longer  period  of  time.  Certainly  the  extra  volume  of  water  in  the  barrel  will  help  a  bit  but  at  the  end  of  the  day  the  unless  you  are  using  some  chemical  media  that  absorbs  nitrates,  your  bacteria  will  only  be  able  to  break  waste  down  from  ammonia  to  nitrates  after  which  it  will  just  keep  building  up  since  you  are  not  doing  any  WCs.  Adding  some  easy  hardy  plants  will  help  to  use  up  some  of  the  nitrates  but  plants  will  give  out  their  own  wastes  so  in  the  end  a  WC  will  be  needed  but  the  plants  can  extend  that  period

Sides  of  the  lid  ?  You  can  try  try  using  a  big  washer  there  at  the  join  and  some  clamps  to  hold  it  the  lid  down  tightly.  Or  make  your  own  using  silicone.  Pics  would  help

i  have  already  put  a  rubber  gasket  on  the  top  before  i  put  the  lid  Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up

but  what  i  was  thinking  that  the  lid  requires  another  air  tube  to  release  the  excess  air  which  accumulates  on  the  top  when  the  power  head  is  on

will  that  solve  the  leaking  Thumb Up   Thumb Up   Thumb Up

No  that  won't.  And  having  air  is  just  fine,  will  dissolve  on  circulation,  just  take  care  pump  doesn't  run  dry.

Try  posting  a  pic  of  where  it  leaks.

i  have  noticed  that  when  i  turn  the  power  head  on  after  a  couple  of  hrs  the  filter  starts  to  leak  from  the  sides
even  after  adding  rubber  gasket  on  the  rimming  of  the  filter
