Hi,  to  all  fish  lovers.  I  am  Ganpat  from  Mumbai.  Currently  I  am  housing  a  10  inch  flowerhorn  in  a  4ft  tank.  His  name  is  "Hellboy"  I  hope  u  all  like  the  name.  He  (Male  with  a  huge  kok)  is  18  months  old.  For  the  past  3  days  he  is  breathing  heavily  and  his  entire  body  is  covered  with  white  spots  as  if  the  body  is  sprayed  with  salt.  Also  his  kok  has  reduced  a  lot.  Hellboy  is  in  definite  pain.  Need  expert  advice.  Currently  doing  40  percent  water  changes  for  th  e  past  2  days.  Have  also  put  methlene  blue  liquid  and  have  kept  the  water  temperature  at  28  degrees.  Tried  to  attach  video  and  pics  but  wouldn't.  Might  because  I  am  using  a  phone  to  post  this.  Help  please...

Hey  have  you  tried  one  tablespoon  per  five  gallons   table  salt  remedy  x  3  days  for  white  spot  disease?  It   has  worked  for  me  in  the  past  but  most  people  say  use  only  aquarium  salt.

 Hi  Ganpat,

Change  50  %  water  ,  add  rock  salt(common  salt  non  iodised)  half  hand  ,dissolve  it  in  the  tank  and  switch  on  the  heater  set  it  to  30  degree.
The  next  day  change  again  water  and  continue  the  above  proces.  you  will  see  gradual  decrese  of  white  spot.

Thanks  for  the  inputs.  I  am  a  bit  worried  though   Hellboy  is  not  responding  to  the  medications.  It  has  been  6  painful  days  for  him.  The  first  day  I  put  rock  salt  and  set  the  heater  to  28  degrees.  Followed  it  for  2  days.  There  was  no  difference  in  his  conditions.  Then  thought  of  consulting  a  lfs  guy  which  I  was  reluctant  but  I  didn't  had  a  choice.  I  do  not  have  many  friends  in  this  hobby.   The  lfs  guy  told  me  to  put  methlene  blue  and  salt  and  observe  it  for  2  days.  I  did  the  same  with  40  percent  water  change.  It  didn't  worked  also.  Then  posted  in  IAH.  Really  thanks  for  the  inputs.  I  am  sure  u  all  must  have  also  gone  through  this  where  you  do  all  the  possible  things  to  keep  your  wet  pets  in  pristine  health.  Someday  somethings  go  wrong  and  your  pet  is  in  disaster. It  is  good  that  we  all  have  IAH.  Where  we  all  share  our  knowledge  and  we  have  the  experts.  No  lfs  guy  will  feel  the  sickness  of  our  pets.  They  are  just  there  to  fool  people  around....
Hellboy  was  feed  on  Hikari  cichlid  food.  I  had  resisted  him  from  live  foods  but  then  about  15  days  ago  I  bought  him  a  dozen  feeder  fishes  to  feast  on.  I  believe  they  are  the  cause  of  this  disaster.  As  nothing  worked,  I  went  to  a  reputed  lfs.  He  also  gave  me  a  liquid  named  Mr  blue.  He  told  to  put  the  liquid  and  to  add  rock  salt.  It  also  hasn't  worked  till  now.Currently  doing  a  50  percent  water  change,  will  also  add  the  rock  salt  as  recommended,  I  may  increase  the  quantity  a  bit.  Should  I  continue  with  methlene  blue  or  malachite  green?  Also  how  long  does  this  bacteria/parasite  lasts.  I  googled  and  found  the  symtoms  are  related  to  Ich.  If  it  is  ich  then  how  lethal  is  it?   Are  there  any  specialist  aquarium  medicines  for  ich?   There  is  no  improvement  in  his  condition.  Please  help,  I  do  not  want  to  lose  him.  Confused   Confused

flowerhorn  is  a  hardy  fish  he  will  be  ok,  just  maintain  water  temp  30  also  during  water  change  don't  fluctuate  it  try  to  add  same  temp  heated  water  ,  if  your  using  medicine  thn  malachite  green  is  better  for  white  spot  or  use  antibiotic  like  tetracycline  but  use  only  when  u  observe  salt  n  temperature  rise  is  not  working.

Update:  Hellboy  is  on  the  path  of  recovery.  Salt,  constant  temperature  and  water  changes  have  really  done  the  wonders.  All  the  white  spots  have  vanished.  Will  continue  with  the  above  treatment  for  more  2  weeks.  Just  a  concern,  Hellboy  has  not  eaten  for  more  than  2  weeks  and  is  super  weak.  How  long  can  they  go  without  food?  Pls  advice.

2  weeks  is  too  long.put  3  to  4  small  guppies.
Definitely  it  will  eat  one  or  two  to  regain  energy.
1  week   FH  go  without  food.
Change  50  %  of  water  and  try  give  some  guppies.

Th  e  problem  is  that  Hellboy  is  not  able  to  raise  his  mouth  till  the  water  level.  Also  he  breathes  very  heavily.  Due  to  weakness,  I  guess.  The  last  time  I  gave  him  feeders,  it  resulted  in  this  sickness.  I  also  do  not  have  home  grown  feeders.  Should  I  try  bloodworms?

Finally,  Hellboy  has  started  eating.  He  is  not  that  energetic  and  seems  to  be  weak.   I  had  noticed  white  stringy  poo  in  the  tank   and  googled.  The  symtoms  are  related  to  Hexamita.  Now  treating  with  Metronidazole,  500  mg  per  10  Gallons  and  50  percent  water  change  daily.  Today  is  the  3rd  day  and  he  has  started  eating.  I  am  so  glad,  now.  Will  keep  you  all  updated  and  Thanks  to  all.
