 Hi,

Just  discovered  that  my  tank  is  leaking  from  the  bottom  where  side  and  bottom  glass  meet.  Tank  size  is  24*12*12  cm.

 My  queries  are:

 1.  I  haven't  seen  aquarium  safe  sealant  in  hardware  stores,  just  saw  the  general  ones  like  Wacker,  DrFixit  (clearly  says  at  the  back  not  suitable  for  fish  tanks)  etc.  Are  there  any  specific  brands  that  are  aquarium  safe?   I  have  Resibond   SL  330  clear  at  home.  Is  it  aquarium  safe?

 2.  Shall  I  apply  it  only  on  the  leak  where  silicon  is  missing  or  cover  the  whole  quote  of  existing  silicon  with  one  more  layer  across  the  entire  bottom?

 3.  Shall  I  apply  it  both  inside  and  outside?

 4.  And  finally  can  I  add  a  cut  zip  pouch  piece  from  inside  to  seal  the  leak  with  a  sealant?  Since  it  is  less  than  1cm  and  a  corner,  I  wont  be  able  to  put  acrylic.

Thanks  for  your  patience  with  my  multiple  queries.

 Hi  avi,

Google  search  for  aquarium  shops  in  your  area  and  then  check  with  them

 To  answer  your  queries:

 1.  Even  though  it  says  that  it  is  not  suitable  for  aquarium,  majority  of  people  use  it  to  glue  aquarium.  So  no  issues  in  using  that  silicon.

There  is  an  aquarium  grade  silicon  available  from  Wacker.  But  it  might  be  little  difficult  to  find  the  right  source  to  procure  the  same.

 2.  I  would  suggest  removing  the  existing  silicon  and  re-sealing  the  glass  again.  But  if  it  is  not  possible,  then  you  may  apply  a  new  coat  on  top  of  the  existing  silicon.

 3.  Only  inside  would  be  sufficient.

 4.  Not  required.  Squeeze  in  the  silicon  into  the  gap  that  you  see.

This  is  what  i  heard  from  an  aquarium  shop  person  -  silicone  that  does  NOT  have  anti-mold  chemicals  in  it  can  be  used
I  made  a  cube  with  one  such  silicone.  Guy  from  where  I  bought  said,  if  there  is  no  distinct  smell  in  it,  it  would  not  have  antimold.  he  smelt  couple  of  branded  tubes  and  then  gave  one  to  me  saying  this  will  work.  lol
 BTW,  it  worked  !
