 Hi  all

Help  needed  got  new  eheim  2213  canister  want  to  replace  with  the  inbuilt  top  filter  since  performance  wasn't  that  great.

I  am  worried  about  the  beneficial  bacteria  since  mine  is  established  planted  tank.  First  I  thought  of  running  both  filters  simultaneously  however  the  inbuilt  hood  doesn't  allow.  Will  have  to  dismantle  top  filter  to  make  way  for  the  new  one.

Please  help  on  how  do  I  go  about  it.

 Hi  yogeek,

Do  replace  some  of  the  media  from  your  top  filter  to  canister  this  will  help  to  form  the  beneficial  bacteria  fast,  and  do  note  your  tank  is  already  established  one  so  you  will  be  having  beneficial  bacteria  in  your  substrate  also,  so  no  worries.

If  you  are  worried  about  bacteria,  take  some  water  from  your  existing  tank  and  keep  it  in  a  bucket  or  some  unused  tank  and  start  using  your  2213  there.  After  a  week  you  can  replace  the  existing  filter  with  the  new  2213.

 Yogeek,
Keep  the  Ehiem  ready  with  all  the  basket  filled  with  media  except  for  one  tray.  Remove  and  clean  the  top  filter  with  Aquarium  water  only.  the  filter  medium  from  the  top  filter  must  be  used  in  one  of  the  trays  of  the  Ehiem.
The  dirty  water  which  you  got  after  cleaning  the  top  filter  must  be  used  to  fill  up  the  Ehiem  filter,  top  up  with  aquarium  water  if  you  fall  short.
Now  close  and  lock  up  the  canister,  prime  it  and  switch  on.
The  filter  media  from  the  top  filter  must  not  be  allowed  to  dry  out  in  any  circumstances  while  cleaning.
Keep  the  feeding  to  a  bare  minimum  for  at  least  a  week,  do  30%  water  changes  everyday  for  one  week.

 Yogeek
You  can  slso  try  to  keep  both  filtration  on  if  the  stocking  density  is  high  and  you  are  peculiar  about  clarity  of  water.
Input  of  Top  Filter  should  have  space  /gap  for  put  in  canister  input.
For  output  you  can  make  Hole  using  Hot  rod  metal  near  the  output  of  the  Top  filter  in  the  plastic  part.

 Regards
 Abhishek
