 Hi  guys  ,

Can  anyone  suggest  me  good  lighting  for  my  planted  tank..  the  tank  dimensions  are  90*45*50  cm  ..  the  plants  are  going  to  be  variety  of  mosses..  crypts   cuba  ,  cababomba  ,   frogbits,  ferns.  No  co2  dosing  as  of  now.   And  fauna  shrimps,  neon  tetra  and  rainbows.  Has  anyone  tried  sanrise  aqualover  leds,  btree  leds  or  rio  reh  led.  Which  of  those  are  economical  or  any  other  leds  or  t5  and  place  to  buy  in  chennai  ?.

 Yo  bro!

I'll  give  you  a  very  economical  solution.  But  it  is  guaranteed  to  work.

Go  for  CFL  bulbs  (cool  daylight,  6500k  temperature).  These  guys  are  so  underrated  in  the  hobby.

Calculate  how  many  you  need  based  on  the  lumens  they  give  out,  not  wattage.  For  good  plant  growth  you  should  aim  for  50  lumens  per  litre.  So  for  your  tank  you  need  about  10,125  lumens.  Buy  your  CFLs  accordingly.

No  need  to  delve  to  much  on  giving  a  varied  color  intensity.  Just  give  the  natural  6500k  and  let  the  plant  decide  which  color  intensity  it  wants  to  absorb  based  on  its  growth  stage;  that's  what  they  do  in  nature  right?

I  have  setup  a  couple  of  tanks  with  lush  growth  based  on  this  principle.  Had  first  done  this  for  my  uncle's  tank.  Was  a  bit  skeptical  at  first  on  how  it  would  turn  out.  But  in  2  months  the  growth  was  astounding.  Then  I  tossed  out  my  Hitachi  aquarium  t5  lights  and  installed  CFLs  @50lumens/litre  for  my  100L  non-co2  tank.  Results  are  great.

Just  make  sure  that  during  the  initial  period  you  also  plant  some  plant  that  outcompetes  algae,  till  your  primary  plants  set  in.  I  like  Indian  fern  (Ceratopteris  cornuta)  for  this.  Though  in  your  case  the  cabomba  will  also  play  the  same  role.
