It almost started in IAH with this post where my quest for having an Asian Arowana started. I didnt get any leads I widened my search and started visiting almost all LFS in Bangalore and even outside state ones which came across through friends. Not moving in the right direction, and some failed attempts through some of Bangalore well known LFS I was finally able to conclude my search through a LFS from Mumbai. I was able to get lots of silver, RTG common ones which I was not looking for.
Long story short, after 6 months of search, my much awaited Asian Arowana finally landed in Bangalore Airport one midnight during November 2015. I was there waiting at the airport cargo to receive him and carry home, some 50 kms away from BLR airport. His to-be home a 6 feet ADA tank was being cycled for last few months, waiting for this guy. He came with a Certificate, a tag reading and microchip inserted inside his body.
And we had decided to name him - FLASH.
He was around 8 Inches when we received him and took him a few days to start feeding. Started with Dried Shrimp, Hikari and AR-G1 sticks (which he didnt touch) and then found out he loved market prawns. I now feed him mostly Prawns and insert the pellets inside prawns and he eats them unknowingly. Also feed him mealworms as occasional treat.
I do 30-40 % water change every week-end without fail and do test water with API kit often. Tank is supported by 2 SunSun canister filters.
Now its almost 1.5 years Flash is with us, and almost became a member of our family. it has been a pleasant experience raising him and he is gentle, playful and a calm and settled kind of guy. He has become used to us and not afraid of us these days, during feeding or water change even allows to touch his back sometimes.. I learned a lot about Arowana varieties, their care and issues during this time he is with us. One thing I mainly learnt is that do not blindly go with reading or advice from people on internet, which may or may not work for your case.
When we are around in the house, Flash like to watch us when we are in the living room, just like we love to watch him swimming around. In order to watch him when we are outside, I even setup an IP Camera at home so that I can watch him throughout (he doesnt have any privacy now )
Sharing some recent pics, taken during last week end. He is currently 2 years of age and 2 feet long, approximately.

Update: I have upgraded the tank to a 6Ft X 2.5Ft X 2Ft, custom built tank with Sump and Bean Animal Overflow system. BA Overflow for a silent and fail-safe operations. Setup was completed in Nov 2017 and have been running smoothly so far. Glass was custom ordered from Balaji Glass, infantry Rd, Bangalore and tank constructed at home with help of someone known to me.
The entire tank building experience was an awesome learning experience for me, stand, finalisation of specs for the glass, ordering the glass, cutting the glass, drilling holes for the overflow and return lines, making the tank, doing the plumbing and setup sump, and moving the monster fish from previous tank to new tank - all went well.
On my earlier 6Ft tank was having less width, and was running 2 SunSun 304 series Canister filters. I am seeing the overall benefits with the new system compared to my earlier tank:
Silent operations, only a small sound of the return pump only.
Holds almost 5-6 times more bio media
Maintenance effort reduced, sump tanks, media, and display tank remain residue/slime free. I havent touched sump tank after setup, for 4 months now. Main thanks to 100 micron filter socks in sump
Weekly water change effort reduced, just remove 30-40% water, refill and replace filter socks in sump. No scrubbing and cleaning of glass needed.
Power consumption almost reduced to half, just 55W pump on my EHeim return pump. Got rid of air pump also, I have power backup at home
Water quality, parameters well within control. Almost crystal clear water in tank
