To those who want to know how to make D I Y Fertilizers and the dosing pattern.
I follow EI dosing. I make a stock solution of all the ferts and dose them thrice a week or depending on nutrient deficiency. You could either get lab grade chemicals or fertilizer grade ones.
To make the stock solutions
K2SO4 stock solution = 40 gms K2SO4 + 500 ml water
KNO3 stock solution = 40 gms KNO3 + 500 ml water
KH2PO4 stock solution = 15 gms KH2PO4 + 500 ml water
Trace Stock Solution = 15 gms Microsol B + 500 ml water
Dosing
One ml of K2SO4 stock solution in 1 gallon of water will give you 8.98 ppm Potassium
One ml KNO3 stock solution in 1 Gallon water will give you 12.26 ppm Nitrate and 7.74 ppm Potassium.
One ml KH2PO4 stock solution in 1 Gallon of water will give you 5.23 ppm Phosphate
I do not know how much Iron (fe) is there in 500 ml Microsol B solution however as a thumb rule i add 5 ml for every 40 gallons.
Your weekly targets should be
Potassium (K) - 30ppm/ week
Nitrate (N) - 20 ppm/ week
Phosphate (P) - 3 ppm/week
Iron (Fe) - .5 ppm/week
50% water changes a week is a must.
The parameters above are for heavily planted tank, for less planted tank you could reduce the dosing.

So by weekly target you mean we shouldnt have put in more than 30 ppm of Potassium
which would mean not more than about 3 doses and a bit of the k2S04 solution..
also should i dose in one go or spread it across a few days?

If your water is Hard, then you may need not add MgSO4 separately. Not sure about this.. Lets experts give their comments... |

Where can one get KNO3, KH2PO4 and K2SO4 in Mumbai /Thane?
Also where to get the micronutrients - seachem or any other brand.
I tried calling up chemical delaers using justdial and other services on the internet, but no luck yet. |
