I  am  faced  with  a  horrible  situation.

How  do  I  unglue  something  that's  been  stuck  fast  with  Cyanoacrylate  aka  Super  Glue.
I  have  heard  Superglue  forms  molecular  bonding  with  acrylic,  thankfully  I  am  stuck  with  plastic  where  in  it  only  forms  an  adhesive  bond.

I  cannot  use  a  blade  or  wire  as  it  might  damage  the  delicate  sealing  groove  made  in  the  plastic.

Any  body  know  of  a  solvent?

I  have  thrown  the  part  in  water  for  now  hoping  for  the  best.

I  think  warm  water  helps  ...  thats  what  the  packs  say  ...  maybe  even  acetone  could  be  tried  ...
Sorry  ..  mostly  a  hit-n-miss  guess  here  Smile

So  Madan  I  guess  the  joint  opened!
Yes  keeping  the  plastic  immersed  for  a  while  in  water  (prefferably  warm  water)  will  definately  help  -  superglue  will  not  hold  for  long  in  water  -  but  only  if  it  is  a  mechanical  bond  -  not  a  molecular  bonding!
Sorry  I  saw  it  today!   Drinking

 Hi  Madan,

Try  using  EDC  or  MDC  i.e  Ethylene  Dichloride  or  Methylene  Dichloride.  I  recommend  MDC,  even  this  are  not  sure  shot  but  seems  to  be  better  then  others.

 Thanks  guys,

I  left  the  piece  for  a  long  soak  in  water  back  at  home.  I'll  check  on  it  when  I  get  back  in  April  2007

Hiren  the  info  regrading  EDC  and  MDC  is  new  to  me.  Thanks  for  the  reply.  I'll  try  that  if  the  soak  fails.

Madan,  Acetone  should  work.  The  handiest  source  is  "nail  polish  remover".  We  now  use  (sterile)  superglue  to  close  minor  cuts  instesd  of  suturing  them,  and  in  cases  where  the  stuff  sticks  to  places  where  it  wasnt  supposed  to  we  use  acetone.
Here  is  a  super  link  for  superglue  problems  :  Smile

nail  polish  remover  is  Acetone  or  MIBK(methyl  iso  butyl  ketone)(mibk  being  more  expensive)
I  would  try  to  use  ethyl  acetate  or  butyl  acetate  as  these  are  the  basic  solvents  that  go  into  polymers  having  parmenant  bond..but  cannot  be  used  on  plastic  as  it  will  shrink  it..Acetone  will  change  the  colour  of  plastic..
