Have  got  a  breeding  pair  of  the  yellow-tail  blue  damsel.  Problem  is  feeding  the  fry.  The  whole  batch  perish  away  in  no  time.  Then  again  the  pair  would  lay  the  eggs.  This  happens  twice  a  month  and  has  been  happening  for  the  past  4  months  now.

Is  there  any  feed  alternative  to  rotifers?

Again  the  same  problem  with  the  Cleaner  /  skunk  shrimps.  Have  got  5  of  them  in  one  of  the  tanks,  out  of  which  3  are  females,  for  sure.  They  carry  the  eggs,  inside  the  flaps,  between  the  belly  and  the  tail.  I  can  see  them  taking  good  care  of  the  eggs.  The  tiny  free-swimming  fry  are  seen,  more  towards  the  surface  and  all  the  corners.  No  idea  as  what  to  feed  the  fry.  If  it  were  Freshwater  CRS  or  cherry  Reds,  it  would  have  been  very  much  easier  to  breed  and  raise  them  in  tanks  with  plenty  of  algae.  But  i  feel  very  helpless  here.  Really  no  clues.

 Can  anybody  help?

 Hi,
 sorry  for  the  late  reply
I  have  faced  the  same  problem  with  my  blue  devils  -  they  used  to  breed  like  crazy  but  the  fry  are  so  tiny  that  they  can  hardly  be  seen  with  naked  eye.
I  did  a  small  experiment  but,  the  floods  killed  all  my  fish  and  inverts  so  could  not  come  up  with  conclusions  -  I  seperated  the  spawning  pair  to  a  tank  by  themselves  and  the  tank  was  a  FOWLR  (set  in  a  manner  where  I  could  easily  monitor  each  nook  and  corner  of  the  tank)  considering  the  digging  habits  of  the  damsel  I  kept  the  tank  BB  because  I  wanted  to  see  what  difference  it  made  to  their  spawning  behaviour  but,  the  spawning  site  was  taken  up  under  a  LR's  overhang  even  without  any  digging  ritual  and  the  eggs  were  laid.  the  fry  hatched  in  about  three  days  whom  I  planned  to  feed  with  'Liquifry'  a  product  from  interpet  but  was  able  to  do  that  only  for  a  day  after  which  I  could  not  approach  my  shop  for  8  days  and  the  electricity  was  cut-off  for  ten  long  days  so  I  ended  up  loosing  even  the  parent  stock.
I  would  urge  you  to  try  out  the  product  -  I  think  it  should  work.
 HTH!

Although  never  tried  Liquifry  in  particular,  it  sounds  more  suited  for  FW  fish.  Correct  me  if  i  am  wrong.  Believe  me,  the  fry  size  is  less  than  half  the  size  of  dwarf  rainbow  or  betta  fry.  And  since  the  fry  remain  tiny  for  a  prolonged  time,  it  will  be  mandatory  to  keep  them  feeding  in  regular  intervals.  Have  tried  kent  series  of  liquid  feed  for  fliter  feeders,  for  the  fry.  No  luck.  Even  brine  shrimp  nauplii  look  giants  as  compared  to  them.   Sad

Will  try  to  post  the  best  possible  pics  of  the  two  species.  One  thing  i've  noted  is,  the  spawning  happens  only  when  the  pH  is  bang-on  8.4  only.

Almost  2  days  after  the  200+  eggs  being  laid,  all  over  inside  the  cavity  in  the  base  rock.  The  female  preferes  to  be  hungry  for  3  to  4  days,  until  the  fry  disappear.  Shameless  male  eats  well  all  the  time.

See  the  pic  in  full  resolution  to  see  the  eggs.

Thanks.  Will  mail  the  same.  AFA  feeding  the  fry  is  concerned,  I  guess  Liquifry  will  work  the  same  way  as  the  Kent  series  does.  Have  been  trying.  Does  not  work.  Anyone  with  some  good  suggestion??

Again  lost  a  big  batch  of  shrimps,  must  be  somewhere  in  thousands.  Can  anyone  pls  help!  Do  suggest  whatever  you  feel  like.  May  be  it  can  turn  out  useful  in  raising  the  fry.

@  Nauzer,  are  you  sure  the  fry  can  feed  and  survive  on  zooplankton  initially?  Once  they  grow  atleast  visibily  big  enough,  i  guess  hair  algae  will  do  the  needful.
