We will not stop any new member posting sale of items in the LFS Announcements forum, even if they are brand new members. IAH is only helping the hobbyists and LFS through this forum.
Our concern is people posting fish etc., multiple times a week or a month only in the Buy / Sell / Exchange forum which is solely reserved for hobbyists. Almost always they only post livestock for "sale", never for exchange or never do they want to buy anything.
I cannot believe that so many people successfully breed and are able to raise the fry to have 3 inch discus growing in their tanks which are put up for sale multiple times every week or month.
They are definitely only trading in fish, and the hobbyist here gets shafted as a middleman becomes involved, mind you not everyone is honest.
Such people will have to move over to the LFS Announcements.
This will take sometime to streamline, but suggestions are welcome.

Hi,
Why can't make a rule that if a person has posted in a LFS Announcements forum or Buy/sell/exchange forum he can post another post only after certain no. of days or post.
I think this is possible by making some changes in software.

Just adding my 0.0075 BHD to this thread.
I've brought up the idea of a warning point system at least twice before, and its never been taken seriously. I voiced my concerns on the incessant spam in the forums and that got shot down.
There should be quite a bit of self regulation, and a perfect example can be found in Clowny's thread HERE
The conversation went off topic and she nipped it in the bud. Good for her, thats the way it should be done.
The Buy/Sell forum is a forum thats really abused and I don't mean in only the ways discussed above. Its all become a game of one-upmanship in this forum. Any poster who posts something for sale is sometimes subject to lots of posts detrimental to his sale, sometimes its legitimate, sometimes its not. Again this forum is meant to be a B/S/E forum and not a discussion forum.

Pradeep, everything you said has been taken seriously, the warning points or an alternative system is under consideration, integrating the whole jim bang into what we have here will take some effort.
There will be a Seller Grading system and a Buyer Grading system up in some form. It will take a while as we have to ensure this is not misused as you mentioned in your post. Whoever grades someone should be visible to all, so that he has damn good reasons to backup his grading.
Let's see if this can be done without having the Admins and Mods having to continuously update the Buyer/Seller list often.
Firstly we'll restrict posts in the Buy / Sell / Exchange forum strictly to hobbyists who are genuinely wanting to get rid of their excess livestock/equipment and keep the "traders" out.

I am all for it Madan
If the traders want to advertise on the site, for a fee, that should be encouraged.

Advertising on IAH is already possible in the top most section of the webpage.
As far as the LFS announcements go,i am not sure as to how feasible this is...It might even be a lot to ask out of the admins and moderators but, what if the LFS and buy/sell section is completely moderated before the Members get to view it.Before the thread is seen to the rest of the members, the mods could probably read through the post and then decide as to if the post is a frivolous one or if it could be approved. This may to an extent bring down the spamming.Even after the approval , if theres repeated spamming in the thread by any user, the person could be reported by the other hobbyists.
The idea of locking the thread may not really work indeed.....considering there may be many genuine hobbyists too...as pointed out earlier on.
Irrespective of whether this is tackled immediately or not,am convinced with the idea of banning a user for frivolous and unwanted posts

Hi Admin & Moderaters,
I am totally agree with Mr. Madan and i also appologize for the message like this, if i have done in the past. And from here i will try to remember this. I also welcome that the ranking has been changed from post counts to other procedure. But i suggest the ranking should be on the person's educatory articles which helps the new beginners and other members in his aqua intrestes. And the one more thing that there should be a proper ID's not like meaningless id it should be by names (i dont want to comment on a proper person but i have seen so many meaningless id's on IAH). I also wanna change my Id from rakshit to pankaj but it was not changed as i tried to change it.

Permit me to ask a very basic question.
Why have a post count at all?
Why does it matter if I have a 10000 posts or 10 posts.
IAH is a hobby site and it is for hobbyists, the very name of IAH says that.
The only prefixes to names should be moderators & admins, there should not be anything else, not even post counts aganist names.
If I want to see my post count I can always go and visit my porfile.
Post counts can be misleading, if I am new and somebody with a post count of 1000 replies to my post, I will think what ever he is saying is accurate, while it might be a lot of Edit. Is there is no designation or post count I will weigh each member's reply before implementing it.
Let the revolution begin and kill all designations

Hi,
I don't know if it is feasible but like many IT technical forums across in internet why don't we have star rating system which is rated by users who ask the question. Just a thought and might need lots of modifications before it becomes a useful one.
Also more the number of quality posts, the members accumulate more points and climb up the ladder.Judge of both aquatic experience and forum seniority levels!
Couple of IT forum links which have members rated based on their quality posts. Can see the member rankings in the right side of the page.

Post Count is an automatic counter inherent to this software.
Forget about member ranking, we don't need that, a bunch of guys can keep giving each other 5 stars. Too much monitoring for us admins to perform. However if there is something available we'll look into it.
First and foremost we want a ranking system for anyone who posts in the Buy/Sell/Exchange forum and LFS announcements. This is most important, let's see how this goes on a trial basis whenever we are able to enable such a system.
All times are UTC + 5.5 Hours Goto page : Previous1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6Next
