My  new  project  of  6'x2'x2'  aquarium  is  taking  shape  (after  facing  strong  opposition  from  my  hubby, now  i  am  able  to  convince  him  that  it  will  enhance  the  beauty  of  the  drawing  room).     Cheering

I  have  received  the  stand  and  on  21st  Dec  07  will  get  my  aquarium.   I  plan  to  make  it  Mbuna  aquarium.   Can  you  tell  me  what  other  fishes  (ofcours  Cichlid  only)  can  go  with  Mbuna.  Also  the  number  of  fishes.

 Also  need  advice  on  decoration.

This  Saturday  will  paint  the  stand.   will  share  pictures  of  this  project  step  by  step   (Photography  is  my  next  passion  after  fish  keeping)

you  can  also  use  coral  sand  as  a  substrate  through  its  pretty  expensive.  you  can  also  use  crushed  quartz  as  a  substrate.  Kaushik  uses  that  in  his  tank.  put  in  a  lot  of  roaks  as  Rocky  says.  make  a  few  caves  with  them.  ot  take  a  few  clay  pots  and  make  holes  in  them  and  use  then  for  decorations.  here  are  a  few  pics  for  ideas!!
all  the  pics  are  from  ratemyfishtank.com  and  i  dont  take  any  credit  for  them.  all  credit  to  the  owners!

been  wanting  a  setup  like  the  third  one  too.  but  havent  found  time  to  go  to  M.P.  to  get  some  rocks.  cant  seem  to  find  round  rocks  in  Allahabad.  i  use  coral  sand  with  rocks  from  a  brick  kiln.  the  burnt  out  bricks  at  the  brick  kiln  are  great.  cheap  too  if  you  know  someone.  but  you  will  have  to  clean  them  properly.  this  is  my  setup

 Hi  Shubhi
Request  you  to   see  my  previous  postings  regardi  Malawi  and  tanganykan  species,  setup  and  fishes. One  precautions  never  choose  Metroclaima  Lombordi  or  Kenyi  cichlids(Blue  in  colour  with  zebra  stripe)  which  is  easily  available  in  any  LFS  because  they  are  most  aggresive  fish  I  have  ever  seen.
 Regards
 Kaushik

Kunal  -I  have  these  round  rocks  with  me.   During  my  last  visit  to  Haridwar  I  filled  my  car  with  these  rocks.   I  also  have  rocks  from  a  brick  kiln  which  I  am  already  using  in  my  setups.

Kaushik  -   Unfortunately  I  do  have  eight  of  juvi  kenyi  cichlids.  Till  now  they  are  not  aggressive.   But  in  case  they  become  so  will  return  it  to  my  LFS.

There  used  to  be  a  gentleman  named  Ranjit  Singh,  who  owned  a  landscaping  firm  there  and  stocked  water  worn  stones  (and  other  kinds,  for  that  matter).  His  nursery  was  near  the  Circuit  House.  Exact  address  escapes  me  at  the  moment.

 retro_gk,
Mr.  Ranjit  singh  from  Allahabad????  will  check  out  for  a  nursery  next  to  circuit  house.  thanks  for  the  tip!

 Shubhi,
if  you  have  the  rocks  then  all  you  need  is  the  substrate.  use  something  which  will  keep  the  pH  up!

 Kaushik,
you  are  right  about  the  aggression  part.  i  have  5  of  them.  2  male  and  three  female  but  they  are  not  as  aggressive  as  the  white  morph  or  the  albino  peacock  cichlid.  i  have  a  a  couple  of  Auratus  too  but  they  dont  fight  with  the  Kennyi.  they  try  to  keep  out  of  way  of  each  other.

 Rocky,
isn't  that  lace  rock  in  the  last  setup?  i  heard  its  pretty  expensive!!  do  you  stock  any  of  them?

Yes,  Allahabad.  I  believe  the  nursery  is  inside  the  compound  of  a  judge's  residence.

 Hi  shubhi
One  inputs  from  my  side  never  use  Haridwar  Rocks  in  your  aquarium  though  they  are  unique  in  size  and  shape.  They  are  basically  alluvial  rocks  not  hard  quartz  rocks.  When  your  tank  water  became  old(Low  Ph)it  will  react  with  the  Calsium  of  the  rocks  and  evetually  results  clowded  the  water.  I  hope  you  understand   the  depth  of  the  problem  because  your  new  tank  is  huge  and  partial  or  full  water  change  is  a  zigantic  task  and  you  can't  do  it  more  often.
 Regards
 Kaushik
