 For  last  couple  of  days,  I  was  looking  for  a  Light  fixture  for  my  1feet  cube.  But  while  searching  I  found,  most  of  the  readymade  fixture  is  coming  with  9  or  11watt  PLL.  Or  if  I  found  a  fixture  which  can  hold  high  wattage  CFL  that  costs  me  a  lot.  So  finally  I  decided  to  do  it  by  my  own.

 So  before  making  the  Hood,  I  thought  about  2  points,

 1.  The  Material  to  build  the  Hood

 2.  Total  Wattage  Of  Light  I  need.

 So  for  point  number  1,  I  found  SS  steel  sheet  which  will  be  a  highly  reflective  medium  of  light.

 And  answer  for  point  number  2,  I  need  minimum  23  watt  lights  to  provide  3.5watt/Gallon  to  the  tank.

 First  I  went  to  a  Electrical  shop  I  picked  up  a  23watt  CFL,  Holder  (Which  can  be  mount  to  the  hood  wall),  wires  and  plug.

 Then  I  reached  out  to  my  Air  Cooler  shop.  I  got  3  cooler  in  past  for  me  and  lots  of  my  friends  also  got  cooler  from  that  guy.  So  I  have  a  good  relation  with  him.  So  I  told  him  to  make  a  hood  for  me  and  gave  the  design.

 Take  a  look  at  the  below  pictures  for  the  different  stage  of  making.

 The  Initial  Structure  using  SS  Steel.

 Inner  View::

 The  extra  clip  I  have  kept  knowingly.  I  have  a  plan  to  make  the  tank  with  a  wooden  rim.  So  that  time  I  will  bend  the  clip  and  mount  them  top  of  the  rim.

 I  think,  you  are  thinking,  how  ugly  and  dull  the  hood  is  looking  like.  Very Happy  But  hold  on,  The  buffing  is  left  yet.

 Today  evening  I  went  to  the  Buffing  shop  and  get  it  done.  Now  see  the  finished  product.

 Inner  View::

 When  The  Light  Is  On:

 And  Finally  It's  mounted  at  the  right  place::  Smile

 Let  me  know,  if  you  like  it.

 @Tarun:  Thanks  buddy.  The  complete  set  cost  me  450  (Including  Hood,  Buffing  and  Light  fixtures).

 As  it  is  a  DIY  project,  I  think  there  wont  be  any  problem  specifying  the  cost.

 @Gator:  Didn't  plan  out  till  now.  Will  be  planted  for  sure.  Smile

 Good  work  Tirth.  This  will  give  many  an  idea  how  to  replicate  this  for  bigger  tanks.

 Thanks  a  lot  everyone  for  the  kind  words.   Thumb Up

 As  Hayath  said,  it's  all  about  fun.  To  get  DIY  stuffs  done,  I  am  going  to  different  places  looking  for  materials  and  meeting  with  people.  Getting  different  inputs  and  idea.  Really  it's  fun.  Smile  And  my  next  terget  is  to  make  a  hood  which  will  hold  4-6  T5  HO  for  a  larger  planted  tank.

 As  you  said,  yes.....  reduce  heating  will  be  the  greatest  challenge  for  me.  Let  me  plan  out,  I  will  put  a  small  CPU  Fan  to  blow  up  the  Hot  Air.  If  you  already  have  tried  something  like  this,  let  me  know.  That  will  be  a  great  help.
